The second semester is almost ending. Do yo uhave parent teacher conferences then? Do youi think all parents should go or just kids who are struggling? How often do you meet with your childs teacher?

Kaylee's school will offer them to everyone and since this is her first year in school....we will go each semester just to see how things are really going and be able to chat with her teacher.

I really like go every semester especially since there is only so much you can jot down in her communication notebook or in the 2 minutes I get to talk to her aide in the am so I really like them each semester.

We had Hunter's a couple weeks back.

Anytime I have a concern I make an appointment to meet with his teacher. All parents should do that, special needs or not.

Yes, I go to all my kids parent teacher conferences. With Abby, we have a communications notebook that goes back and forth and her special ed. teacher calls me at least once...sometimes two or three times a week. Its strange because with her, I'm used to a lot of contact with the teachers and school staff but with my other two being in school now, there's not nearly as much contact as with her. Makes me feel I'm not a part of their schooling enough. I am involved but I'm just not used to dealing with the "average" child and school.

Yes, we also have the communication notebook. Some teachers use it more willingly than others.

As a teacher, a tutor, and a mom, I believe that all parents should go to every conference just to get a better understanding of their child. I can't tell you how many times a parent is surprised to hear that their child acts a certain way in class. Input from the teacher really helps parents get a better handle on their child and provides them with ideas of how to better help them succeed - whether they are advanced or struggling in the classroom. I wish all parents would meet with the teachers whenever they have a chance.

I agree with Shari. We have the communication notebook too, but every time I meet with Alexis' teacher, I am learning something new that Alexis does. It is very informative and a great way to work with the kids better at home.
