The nurse gave me her opinions, and she has had more positive results from the bank closer to where we live - better customer service & she's seen a lot of positive pregnancies using them. In a way though, I think I'd feel more comfortable with using a donor that doesn't live close by. Probably silly of me.

With my nephew, they did find a doc who read the CAT scan & MRI results, and said his aneurysm is located in the front of his head and he has cysts on the back. They want an MRA scan done (which is an MRI of the blood vessels), and hopefully after that we'll know if his is operable. In the meantime, no impact sports, no hits to the head (front or back), and try to keep him calm as possible. Hopefully we'll have some good news soon on this.

I don't think you're being silly at all about the possible donor living "near by". I keep envisioning the video from Heart (the song title escapes me at the moment) where she goes out sleeping around in order to get pg cuz her DH can't for whatever reason and she ends up getting pg and then running into the father and the DS and the biodad have the same eyes.....I wouldn't want to take that chance either.

on your nephew. I really hope they get some clear cut answers soon.

Becky, I've been praying for your nephew and was just getting ready to PM you about any updates. Oh, I hope that they get some good news after the MRA scan!

I don't have any news yet on my nephew. I believe my brother said they're still waiting for the referral for the MRA to be done.

I also haven't heard anything from the insurance companies for our appeal, but really don't expect them to respond until the end of the 45 business days which will be July 2nd. DH & I have been spending some time researching the banks and have narrowed it down to 2 banks. We've both chosen a few donors from either bank and am waiting for more information before making our final decision. We've requested the profiles the donors completed, including a detailed medical background going back several generations. We're still hoping to have everything lined up to begin the process this next cycle. And it would be WONDERFUL to have a positive insurance response before then, so even though it's unlikely, I'm keeping all my crossables crossed!!!!

Bek, you know you and DH are always in my T&P's with all of this. I'm glad you're getting things narrowed down in the search. Hopefully, you'll hear something from the insurance company before you have to do this on your own this next cycle. It really is something that shouldn't be rushed, so I'm sure your head is just going crazy with all of the timing issues. I still can't believe that the reference for your nephew is taking so long. I think the insurance companies realize that they have each of us over a barrel and will take their sweet time getting things done because there's nothing we can do about it. More

Thanks, ladies! This is a very big decision, and we've definitely taken our time narrowing our choices down. There are 2 donors we're interested in the most (1 from each bank), and either will be fine for us to use. Now, we're just waiting for the profiles and then for this cycle to end.

I was on the phone several times with the nurse yesterday, and she doesn't have the information from our visit with the social worker but has everything else lined up for us to proceed. She's emailed the social worker, and once she has her concurrence we are cleared to begin the process using donor sperm. Yay! Right before I left work yesterday though, I get another call from the nurse indicated she'd received an email from the financial coordinator that the insurance company sent them a denial for coverage using donor sperm for us. What??? WE sent the appeal, and the insurance company is supposed to respond to US not the RE's office!!! So, I don't know if this is an official denial of our appeal or just another denial based on the RE's original submission for pre-authorization. They to were going to submit another request. Either way, DH & I are "trying" not to get too upset at this point and will wait for an official response from the insurance company to us. I've left calls for the manager of our benefits team here at work as well, and hope to get his input on all of this and what our next steps will be in this appeals process. Wish me luck on all of this!!!!

Hang in there sweetie! The "denial" email could just be a reitteration of the original denial. I can't believe that they'd be telling the RE's office the results of the appeal. Hopefully, you'll get some great news very soon and you and DH can move on to that BFP this next cycle!

I would hope that the insurance company would respond directly to us, and give us some reasons for denial. I left a message for our Benefits Manager yesterday, and hope to get some guidance from him. The Benefits Team has been so busy in the last couple of months dealing with all the employees retiring and/or being laid off so I'm sure my appeal got put on the back burner with them. Hopefully now I can be moved to the top of the pile. I'll keep you all updated with what we find out on the appeal. In the meantime, DH & I still hope to proceed this next cycle which will start in @ 2 weeks.

It is exciting, but I'm a little nervous as well. In a way, it feels almost like we're starting over our TTC journey as this will technically be our first cycle with "actual" spermies trying to catch the eggie(s). Hopefully though, after being on this rollercoaster for over a year, it won't take us long to get that .

and we've still not received anything official from the insurance company. I don't want to be a PITA person here and keep bugging the Benefits Manager, so I'm "trying" to be patient for this week and will follow up with him next week if I don't hear from him or someone on his team. So, please send me some patience dust!!!

Thanks for listening, girls!!! I'll keep you all updated.

Your patience dust must be working, Jess, as I didn't bug the Benefits Manager all week long. Now, my co-worker on the other hand, did email & call him for status.

She's a dear friend, and will probably be the one going to most of the appointments with me so I'm not alone. With DH & his new job, we're trying to keep him from having to take time off work for now. He doesn't have much leave, and he's only been there 3 months. Also, we'd like to save the leave up for when we have the little one so he can take some time off for that. So, my co-worker volunteered to there with me. Wasn't that sweet of her?

Okay, I do have a couple of updates. 1st - I got my CH's so I O'd on CD20!! Yay!!!! This means we're even closer to our next cycle!!!! DH & I have decided which bank & donor we want to use for this IUI to!! And we have the paperwork completed from our doctor's office, so I think we have everything lined up. I'll be calling the RE's office on CD1 of this next cycle to schedule the CD3 stuff, have to pay upfront on that day, and we're on our way. I'm excited but a little nervous at the same time. Does that make any sense??

and with my nephew, he FINALLY has an appointment with a specialist for his brain aneurysm - it'll be next Thursday, June 25th. Please keep him in your thoughts & prayers for me!!!!

Thanks ladies!!!!

Thinking of your nephew. Very exciting that you guys have chosen a donor and are ready to try the IUI. Nervous and excited sounds perfectly normal!! Will be crossing my fingers for you.

I better get a text from you! I'm so glad to hear that your nephew has his appointment next week! And I totally KWYM about being excited and nervous at the same time. If I lived near there, you know I'd be with you every step of the way...especially the ones Tony can't be. I'm glad that you have someone to be there with you. That's very sweet of your friend to do that. You're looking at 2 weeks from now! And then, two weeks after that I'll be getting a BFP text from you....can't wait! I'm glad you and Tony found a donor you like. Care to share any information about him?

We got a letter from the insurance company on Saturday, again denying coverage for us. So, frustrating!! They're using the grounds that our benefits specifically state the eggs must be physically produced by me, and the sperm physically produced by my spouse. But they're ignoring the fact that they do offer the infertility treatments to same sex couples in a domestic partnership. 2 females obviously have to use donor sperm, as they are both physically unable to produce their own sperm. I'll have to contact our Benefits Manager to see what our next steps are in this appeal process. Either way, DH & I are still proceeding this next cycle. I just hope & pray that we're successful!!!
