Ive mentioned on a few boards here that my family grow most of our own fruits and veggies. We live in a semi-rural area and live on an acreage, so its pretty easy for us. We have a hydroponic house, as well as our garden veggies. We have been doing the grow our own thing for about 12 years.
Because we have been doing this for so long, our garden is quite 'mature' it produces a LOT of fruit and veggies, we freeze those we cannot consume immediately, so we have quite a large stockpile in large freezer boxes in our garage and we share a lot of a our produce amongst friends and family. Its just our thing that we do to save money and eat healthy.
Anyway, I was on facebook yesterday and a mother whose daughter goes to kinder with Sasha made a status about how she does not have enough money for food this week and she dosent know what she is going to do, I sent her a private message saying that our garden is over producing at the moment, and if she wants to pop by this weekend, we will have a large box of fresh fruits and veggies for her. I didnt get a reply, so I left it as is.
Went onto facebook this morning, and saw another status update by her, "amazed by how unrealistic some people are, can anyone live on just fruits and vegetables for a week? I dont think so"
Wow. Just wow. I am so sorry for offering food to someone for free, I never said it was everything they needed for a week, it was simply the only thing I could offer up, because were not exactly swimming in cash either, come on, a librarian and a florist dont exactly rake in the big dollars and we have six children to support, five of our own and one other who lives with us.
What really gets me is that this is the second time this has happened. A few years ago a different person was having difficulty with food, and after I offered, pointed out that they dont want vegetables, they are after bread, cakes, chicken nuggets, and so on, and scoffed at me for offering them food.
Well, you know what, if I had a chicken nugget factory in my garden, then I would offer you free chicken nuggets, but I dont, so I cant do that.
Also, how desperate are you for food, really, if you are turning your nose up at an odd $100 worth of fresh produce for free?
Holy ****! I can't believe she actually said that! I would be really, really pissed off. You can't live off just fruits and veggies but ya know you can live pretty **** close. I'm a vegetarian so honestly I would need very few things to supplement myself if I had a big box of fruits and veggies. Fruits for snacks, veggies to make stir fry on tortillas (cheap and a food bank probably has them), veggie sandwiches on bread (again, food bank has bread), Shish ka bobs, there is a LOT you can do with just fruits and veggies. A food bank can supplement a lot of other stuff. And in reality, if you have nothing and are offered free food, who are you to scoff your nose and say "Nope, not good enough for me!"
Seriously, what an ungrateful ***! I'm sorry she acted that way!
And for someone else to tell you they want nuggets and cakes... really? That should be the least of your worries if you are doing poorly. Ugh, how sad how people can act!!!
Well kudos to you for acting in good faith, sucks they are acting so poorly in response!
Wow, that is something else!!! I would have LOVED to get something like that!!! Sure it would be a start, but if she really thought about how she could put those fruits and veggies to use, she wouldnt be needing a whole lot more than that though!!
I just cant get over the comments they made at your kind offer!! Just blows my mind.. Ignore the comments and if you have to, reduce a few off your friends list. I wish I lived closer
Im going to leave her on my facebook for the time being, at least until kinder finishes, because I know Sasha and her child are going to different schools next year, then i'll delete her... because I have to admit, some of these kinder parents scare me, theyll probably chase me out of town for ruining their little clique.
I still refuse to believe how ungrateful she was.
On a side note, the way the kid's kinder does their morning tea is that the class is divided into 2, and they alternate weeks where everyone from the group rostered on brings a piece of fruit, and everyone shares it, Sash and her child are in the same group and are on this week and she isnt bringing anything, which is fair enough if she cannot afford to feed her own family, however the child in me wants to go "HAH, YOU WOULD HAVE STUFF TO BRING IF YOU WERENT SO RUDE"
The stupidity of people never cease to amaze me. I have been down and out and I have also been able to give. I would have been so very greatful for fresh produce to feed my hungry family if I didn't have it. Heck I would love to have fresh produce now lol. You are a good person you can't help they are dumb
