I have been breastfeeding my dd Amara for 15 months. I just found out that I am pregnant. I would like to have amara weaned by 18 months. I would like to do it very slowly, but I just don;t even know how to start.

i KNOW THE PAIN!!!!! LOL
They say to drop one feeding at a time, but if your dd is like mine, they are not scheduled. If they are do that.
Have you started the don't offer don't refuse method? Don't let her unless she really wantst o, then ofer her milk a snack whatever.... then if she still wants to nurse her. That works for a lot of babies. Not mine but a lot of them.

lol then you should be where I am in a few months!!! I hope not for your sake. I feel bad all the time for not wanting her to nurse anymore, it doesn't have that I have friends that are all about child led weaning and are perfectly fine nursing till their child is 3 or 4 and tandem. I feel very selfish for wanting her to stop.
I decided yesterday that I am just going to have to play hard ball with Nichole. I decided that she is only nursing one time at night (easy she usually only nurses once a night anyways) she can nurse when she wakes up, after her nap, and then again before bed. No more then that!!!! I am hopeing that she will get used to it in a week or so, maybe longer, thats fine too. But then once I get her scheduled I will drop them one at a time from there. I hope it works. I really do not want to nurse past 2 years. Just personal. Speak of the devil, somebady wants to nurse. Luckily this one was short lived and she only cried for about 20 seconds before going off to do something else. I'm sure she will be back in a few minutes though.
Thats what I am trying at least for now. You might want to consider trying it as well.

well yesterday went well!!! We had church in the morning so we were rushing and she never even asked to nurse. She did ask 3 or 4 times in the nursery.. but I was able to distract her very easy, by just saying no not now, and hey look at that!!! We then had a b-day party to go to, so she was way busy playing. i think she asked once or twice but again since we were not at home it was easy to distract. As soon as we got home she asked, it 4 o'clock and she hadn't had a nap, so I didn't even attempt to distract her. She nursed tehn and then again at 7 before bed. She nursed twice in the middle of the night. She usually only wakes once a night so I think she was just over stimulated through the day and no nap kinda thing.
My in-laws are in town today and for the next few days, so I am hopeing that distracting her will be fairly easy. She has asked 5 or 6 times today but I only let her when she first got up. So so far so good. I am sure as soon as she wakes up from her nap she will want to and I will let her then.

I love busy days, it is very easy to go almost all day with out nursing

the last few days it has been very hard for me to distract her, she is teething bad which is making her very cranky

I know your pain. lol We are still doing ok. She is still asking constantly, but when I say no she is having less tantrums. I am doing alot more reading and cuddling with her as well. That way she knows she can still cuddle without nursing.
How often is she nursing a day now?

Today Amara has only nirsed once so far. But last night she nursed about 4 times. IT was the only way I could get some sleep, she just kept screaming.

it is 7:30 now so I think she will only be nursing once more, so that will mean only 2 times today, I am happy about that

how is your dd doing?

Amara only nursed 2 times a day friday saturday and sunday, today she has only nursed once so far, so I think we are finally down to 2 times a day.

She has uped her night feedings though, but I am ok with that

Just wanted to say good luck! My DS is almost 8 months old and he's actually kinda leading the way on weaning himself...We still nurse twice during the day and throughout the night. Hope things go smoothly for you and congrats on your pregnancy.

We are down to the 3 I was ok with. She will still ask through out the day but the tantrums are nothing!!! She usually says "nurse" I say n onurse, and she sucks her thumbs. So it is getting better. She still is nursing once at night. I am ok with that one. I think we are going to try to drop her before bed one next week. See what happens at least.

how's Amara doing

Amarasmommy!!!! Concrats on your pregnancy!! I just noticed your ticker thing!!!!!

Amara is down to 1-2 times a day and 2 times at night. I think she is starting to move to just 1 time a day though..

thats good!!! I finally night weaned. Didn't have to force it or anything. Nichole still wakes up 1-3 times a night but she doesn't even ask to nurse anymore. I just lay down next to her for a minute and she calms down immediately and goes back to sleep. She is in a toddler bed BTW not a crib!

Amara sleeps on a matress on the floor right next to my bed. She has never slept in a crib. I co-slept with her from day one.

Her bed is right next to ours so when she wakes up she just climbs in bed with us and wakes me up.
