So today's dare is one of course that is most important to me, as a math teacher because today's dare has to do with numbers! Of course again this one depends largely on your child's ability and age level. Maybe your child doesn't count at all, but even before they speak they begin learning about speech by hearing you speak, so they need to hear you count. And believe me, I teach 6th graders who don't know 2nd grade stuff often, they need it modeled at home, or they won't get it.

If your child is in school and you normally say "Well, I'm bad at math, I can't help them." Try. I know you can do something. Even if it is just to read the math book and feel like you don't remember it, try. If your child isn't yet in school and already knows how to count, do they know how to write it?

There is something small you can teach them. Maybe you can teach your older child that math is important even if you aren't very good at it. But this one is about counting, or adding, or multiplying. Flash cards for what they're learning is a way a lot of people can do something, maybe today you can make flash cards for your 3rd grader on their multiplication facts if they don't have them memorized yet. I bet they'd have fun making the flash cards with you.

Maybe you can line up their favorite toys and count them. Maybe you can play a game where you count your blessings, do something creative, just include numbers somehow! They will want to learn a lot more if they know it is important, not just from their teacher, but from you...start early, or late, but let them know!

Also anytime you do have a math question, I didn't get this degree for no reason, feel free to PM me, I'm pretty good at math

Oh this is such a great idea. My DS is only 8 months old but I count out loud with him all the time. Just now we were counting his two basketballs! We'll count extra today.

I helped caidance with her school work and homework that involved her math more so than I usually do, today, usually she does it all herself. she missed much of yesterday and is missing today because of my car issues. SO we had lots to work with.

Nicolas has been counting for months. I have always tried to help him with numbers and counting for as long as I can remember. Math is my WORST subject all the way so I'm hoping if I help him with numbers more that maybe he will do better than I did! And surprisingly he started counting things months ago out of the blue and pretty much without my help. I was still teaching him how to say the numbers in order and he just picked it up. So today we made flash cards with different things on them (balls, puppies and bears) that he can count and hopefully get him to start adding things together.

I had an advantage of being a math teacher here, so I used what is essentially electronic flashcards (it is a little hand held thing, sorta seems like a Gameboy, lol). I did it then Courtney did it, we switched. She always gets a kick out of it, and I love that she's practicing her addition skills and enjoying it! I also checked over her subtraction homework.
