Today's dare is about making it musical. As I sit here typing this up for everyone my daughter stands behind me dancing around singing about a prince. Children love music. They want to sing it, they want to dance to it, they want to enjoy it. So today is about music for them.

Maybe today you'll buy them a CD. Maybe today you'll sing the ABC's with them. Maybe today you'll teach them a song you used to know. Music makes you a lot more likely to remember something, there's a new study/program coming out of California called singing and signing where kids sing and sign things like my 6th grade math students would do area of a parallelogram with signs and a song, to the tune of Itsy Bitsy Spider, and it's been shown that most subgroups of students who are on this program double in proficiency, you can't help but remember something you're doing with your body and a song.

So today, take the guitar out of high school, pick up the flute from high school, just visit itunes and make them a CD you can both enjoy in the car, do something with music.

If you happen to have a child with a hearing impairment, maybe today is the day you try to pull a Mr. Holland's Opus, and make the music about visuals as well.

(Not meant to make it hard for you...you can sing in sign too, right? )

Share your feelings about this dare with us!

We do this one nearly every day. Kaija loves to turn the radio in her room on and dance! Lately she's been telling me to "sing wif yo yips mommy!" We're working on teaching her Happy Birthday since my birthday is this week!
