Immediate family (mine) all live under an hour from me other than my step-dad's parents who live 4 hours away. They don't stay with us, generally with my mom or step-aunt, and yeah it's a big deal when they come to stay because generally we have to go to them.
John's family live far from us. His sisters and mom live about a 12/13 hour drive away... maybe. If I remember it's 8 hours to drive across Tennessee alone and they live on the coast of North Carolina. And his brother's live up near Boston and I think that's a 20+ hour drive. His brother's have only came down here twice the whole time I've been with John and both were HUGE deals. His sisters and mom have only came once, but it wasn't as big a deal since they stayed in a hotel.
mom of: Zach (10), Ryan (8), Bella (5), Mason (2), and pollywog #5 due 12/04/14
My parents currently live in Illinois (and me in Idaho) so further than any of the distances mentioned above (about 24 hours driving time...). So when they come we all are staying together, and it is quite a big deal. Especially since we live in their house so anything wrong with it freaks me out...
My family lives about 4 hours away. They don't visit . I rarely visit them . DH's family lives 13 hours away by car. Again his dad and evil new wife don't visit (thats a blessing right now). His mom makes a trip up at least once a year to see the kids. It works for us. I have been away from family for so long now I like it just us. I wish it was different but what can ya do.
