I got a call from Leah's daycare this morning about another fever. It's low-grade - 100 degrees. I just took her to the pediatrician last week and he said it's teething related. Her top two molars are coming in and she's been whiny for a week, not eating as much, waking at night, etc. There is no sign of infection.

I told them this but they still want one of us to come pick her up because "you just never know". Um yes, I DO know. And so does her pedi. It's her MOLARS. And then they tell me that in addition to the fever, she didn't eat much of her breakfast. DUH, because her mouth HURTS right now!

Grrrrr.

I called back and asked if she could just stay and take a nap there since it was coming up on naptime (she'll usually sleep from 11:30 - 2:30). And they're like, "Sure, but would someone be able to come get her after that?" UGH.

This is the third time in three weeks. And it's SO aggravating when we KNOW it's nothing else.

So, I'll probably leave work around 3 or so just so they don't freak out. And DH & I are going to start actively looking into in-home childcare. We've been thinking about it for a month or so, and this has kind of pushed us over the edge. Leah doesn't adapt to change too easily and we can tell that she's been extra "stressed" since moving from the infant room to the toddler room. So I would prefer to find one person that she can develop a real relationship with.

If you read all this, grab a cookie.

That is frustrating. Can you get a doctor's note stating she has been seen and her symptoms are teething related? We had to do that once because they kept sending Eden home because of her eczema. They thought it was a rash...

Hope the home daycare works out for you.

Aww, I am sorry, Amanda. Poor Leah. I know how molars can be, Veronika is cutting one right now and she's cranky and clingy pretty much non-stop. I guess they don't want to take chances at the daycare, I don't really know how daycares work. I hope you can find another place that you'll like more than this one. But poor Leah... I hope she adapts quickly to the new place if you end up going that route.

(((HUGS)))

I completely understand. The change in David when he moved rooms was so hard for me to watch. I am dreading going back to work in the fall and having to leave him again. The only thing that is turning me off of home daycare is what if the person that keeps him is sick or has a family emergency. A freind of mine had to stay home for over a week because the lady that keeps her son wasn't able to because a relative died.

I called her pedi's office but I haven't heard back yet. I still might try to get a note for next week though.

That's my only concern too, but I'm thinking (hoping) it may be more beneficial as a whole.

Your dr should be able to give you a note, so I hope they will get off your back about it.

I worked for a daycare that was like that. It was usually because their numbers were to high and they were trying to get rid of some of the kids. If they didn't overfill their daycare they wouldn't have had that problem. It would make me SO angry. I would have two more kids in my class than was legally allowed and they would claim that they aren't all there all the time. (not sure what world they were living in because they were always there!) Regardless Catherine is teething and she also gets a low grade fever from it.

When I worked at another daycare where I had more freedom I would call the parent let them know their kid had a fever and when they said its teething I usually already knew it was teething because of the red cheeks. I would ask the parent to stop by and give them some motrin. They would and in 20 minutes the kid was fine. End of story!! How hard is that? I usually knew if the kid was seriously ill.

That sounds frustrating! Carrie is transitioning to toddlers this week too and it is hard. I think we were both so comfortable in the infant room..I loved all the individual attention she got in there. Her teacher was so so sweet. Now she is in with these kids that seem HUGE, but she seems to be holding her own.

It sounds to me like they were asking you to pick her up, not telling you you had to. I'd say "No, I won't be able to pick her up today" and leave it at that. Let them be mad if they want, I think they are being unreasonable. We'd all like to stay home with our kids when they are grumpy or have the sniffles but you can't keep your job like that. You've got to save the sick days for when the kids are really sick.
