How does your LO act when you brush their teeth?

Mia acts as if I'm killing her when I brush her teeth. She kicks, squirms, clenches her teeth, cries, and pretty much does anything she can to get away from me. She even tries to hide the toothbrush from me in the mornings. It's my most dreaded part of the day.

Does anyone have any advice? This is new territory for me because Alexander loved it when I brushed his teeth when he was little.

Ugh Eden is the same way. I feel like I never really get her teeth as clean as I would like. I don't know... we just have to hold her down, lol.

Kai loves his toothbrush and loves the idea of brushing his teeth. He would like nothing more to run around with the toothbrush in his mouth. For the actual tooth brushing part, he is less then then thrilled but lets me do it. I think when he gets bigger and can do it himself he will be fine. He does try, but misses most of his teeth

Caden acts the SAME as Mia. I dread having to brush his teeth. I will let him brush his own teeth and then I get in there. I do have to hold him down and his head because he will shake his head back and forth. It's just awful.

Yup, same here... he seems better with DH than with me. Hopefully he'll get over it - it's not like we can just quit. (Even though I sometimes wish I could, lol!)

Same here. I hate it. Although, if THEY do it all themselves, it is fine. But they don't do a good job.

Leah was the same way for awhile. She would throw such a fit, you would think it was the end of the world! I finally started letting her do it herself for a minute or two, and then she lets me do a quick once-over after that. But it has to be QUICK!

We have a few good days, but most days he's exactly like Mia. This kid has been playing with a toothbrush since he was what? 3 mos old? Just so he would get used to brushing his teeth

I have to hold him down, but he still fights it. The second I stop and give him his toothbrush he's fine, and will gladly brush his own teeth.

Veronika USED to hate brushing teeth, but for at least 6 months now she is totally fine with it. DH brushes her teeth, and then she brushes herself. I do the same for Natasha at the same time.

Noe LOVES having her teeth brushed! I started brushing hers (without paste) when she was around 8 months old,and a few months back we started with strawberry toothpaste and she loves it.
She was already used to having her teeth brushed,Id always brush my teeth whilst holding her,let her see what I was doing, let her brush my teeth etc,and she kinda sees it as a fun thing to do with mommy..just like when I put my makeup on.

Maybe you could make it into a game..like ask her to help you brush yours, let her squeeze the paste onto the brush etc
Thats how we did it with Noe and as I said, she absolutely LOVES having hers brushed.

We've tried this, and it still makes no difference. He's always in the bathroom with me, since he was a newborn. Being a single mommy makes him part of everything But no matter how much of a morning/nighttime routine we have, when I brush his teeth, he's usually fighting it like crazy.

The only thing that might work for us, is we sing, we read books and count, that helps on some days.

DS1 fought it every step of the way, esp flossing. He's only been good about it since he was about 30 months old. E was never flossed until she got here three weeks ago. I find it much easier if I lie them on their backs, either on the floor or counter or bed, and brush and floss them myself. I've also learned, that if they're screaming, their mouths are open wide enough to get it done, lol!

Brennan liked it, then started to not like it. So one day I tried asking him to say, "Ahhhhh!" really loud and now he LOVES it! He says (yells) "AHHH" and I brush his teeth -- it's perfect since his mouth is wide open. He says "AH" until I'm done. Then I let him have the brush and he chews on it for a minute before we get the stool for the sink and he gets to rinse the brush and put it away.

Keller LOVES it! I dont know why. I usually brush them and then let him try for a little bit. The only thing is I have to stop often so he can swallow cause he gets nervous if there is too much in there, like he's gagging or something. But I say "chugga chugga" like a train and he thinks it's hysterical. Wrong thread, but I confess he hasn't had his teeth brushed in 2 days since we've been out and about. OOps - we'll have a post-lunch brush today!!
