Ok, so my last 2 pregnancies i was GBS+ which is no big deal i know, just some antibiotics. Well Mackenzie i had athe csection, so it really wasnt a big deal, but with DS i was induced and they gave me the antibiotics when they first started pitocin.

But how does it work in an unscheduled delivery? I know it isnt a guarentee i will get it with every pregnancy, but in the chance that i do again, i just want to know what to expect.

I pinged GBS+ on my initial urine test with this pregnancy, so our plan is to do antibiotics regardless of whether my 34 week tests comes back positive - just to be safe. The plan is that I need to tell the nurses as soon as I get to the hospital that I'm GBS+, so they can give me the first dose of antibiotics as soon as I'm settled. I can labor at home as long as my water doesn't break, but if it breaks, I need to go in right away.

The doses have to be given in a certain time frame. I believe it's two doses, two hours apart, so they need four hours before you deliver to give you the antibiotics (at least that is the case where I am). Most women have that kind of time. However, if you have a very short labor and they don't have time to give you antibiotics, they will just monitor your baby closely for the first 24 hours or so to make sure they don't spike a fever.

If you are positive and you don't get antibiotics, there is still only a 0.0something % chance that your baby will get sick. If she does get sick, they give her antibiotics. I know they say that GBS is fatal in some cases but it is my hunch that the fatal cases are babies who are already sick, or something else, because the way my midwife described it to me, it didn't sound like a big deal for an otherwise healthy baby.

I had 3 'unscheduled' deliveries, meaning I got to triage when I went into labour, and the nurses there immediately asked me a whole bunch of questions one of which was whether I was GBS positive (I wasn't), but they always asked, I never had to think about it at all, they kinda think for you.

Yep, this too. Of course, they want to monitor and be sure they catch it and give antibiotics to the baby if the mom didn't get them (or even if she did), but the chances of it being something really serious are very small. I know a few women who delivered without antibiotics (not on purpose), and their kids are fine. I just am a bit...particular about it since I already landed on the cruddy side of the illness odds with one baby. I'm not even stressing though - which says something, LOL!
