Carrie was drawing this morning (she loves art) and I saw that her picture said "Carrie", "Katy", "Cat", and "Bear" all spelled correctly. Plus a number of other attempts at word. Sure, her speech is hard to understand, and she likes to play alone, but I don't think those preschool evaluators gave her enough credit.

Do you know if she understands what she's writing? Like, when she writes her name, does she understand 'sounds' and why the A goes after the C, and the R after the A, etc?

Veronika can write anything if I spell it out for her, but she doesn't understand why the letters follow one another, lol. She can write "Veronika", "Ariel", "Love" and some other words from memory (watching Natasha do it), but she memorizes the order vs. sounding out the letters! I know she'll learn that in kinder next year, though.

I didn't tell her how to spell them, but no, I don't think she knows how to sound words out yet. I thought it was odd she spelled "bear" right, then I realized she probably wasn't sounding out any of the words...she must have remembered them from one of her story books. Now that I know she is interested I'm going to start trying to teach her some letter sounds though. Although she can't say some of the sounds, so I don't know how that will go.
