Hi everyone . I'm new to this board but not to JM. I've had a bug to want to learn to sew for about the past year so I talked DH into saving up little by little to allow me to get a machine, yay!
I'm hoping to find some advice on learning how to sew. I'm hoping to pick out a sewing machine in the next few months and my goal is to be able to do clothing repair and make garments for myself and family. Once things are going well I might even venture into making my own cloth diapers rather than buying them like I have so far.
Anyone know a good resource for someone that is extremely new to sewing? I know basics, but not much past that.
Any suggestions on a machine that will be good not only for a beginner but will be able to grow with my ability to sew bigger projects?
I just got a sewing machine for Christmas! It is a Brother Innov-is 40 Project Runway Edition. I had never sewn before and was totally intimidated by threading the needle and all of that stuff. IT WAS SO EASY! I just bought some fabric and I have yet to make anything. I am hoping to get my first project completed soon I bought a really neat cloth diaper pattern online that I am hoping to make once I can get the right fabric.

I saw quite a few Brother sewing machines online when I looked. Their prices are pretty reasonable too. That was why I was asking if there was a particular one because my Mom used to sew and refused to use anything but New Home and Singer.
Let me know how the pattern works out . Is it a one size with a snap down? A lady I bought some of my diapers from made her own with zebra material and it was reallllly cute.
