I am really interested in learning how to knit and I wanted to know what my first step should be. Should I find books and read about it? Should I take a class (I'd rather not pay for a class)? For those of you that knit? how did you start?

Well...you could ask me. I'd love to help you out if you'd like.
I relearned via online video tutorials. Youtube is full of them but I really really love techknitter.
What are you hoping to knit first? I'm a lunatic and jump right in over my head but it's probably wise to start with a scarf or dish cloth or something like that.

Also, I highly recommend joining www.ravelry.com for patterns, ideas, etc. It was my home before this home at JM.

Let me know if you need help with your next step ie. yarn and needle choices.

I didnt know you were a knitter! Is there a starters kit or something that I can buy that has all I need to make something simple? If not, I need someone to hold my hand, lol.

I'm another mama who would love to learn to knit! I watched a few videos online but I really struggle with having no one to ask questions to and show me techniques. I'd love to learn to make some longies, sweaters and hats for baby!

Trench bowl blankets for newborn photography props.
Like these:

They seem simple enough, just a square, small blanket, almost like a large pot holder.
