Are you worried?

****************************

I am a bit worried because Ava is such a high respiratory risk and we'll be living at the hospital on/off for the next 10 days.

I'm no more worried about it than any other flu, to be honest. But then, Danny isn't medically fragile, just developmentally challenged.

I'm in the same boat with Kel - I'm no more worried about it than I would be any other flu, or with any other child. Matthew's really got a pretty strong immune system. I'm being careful, as I would with any other illness that seems to be spreading quite rapidly but it's just because I don't want him to be sick, you know? It makes the whole family miserable.

I might see you there! I'll be there at the day surgery for the anesthesia consult at 10 on Friday. We'll be there all next week too.

It makes me nervous to be there too, but not much I can do about it.

Stacy-I have friends that live in Ironton. They must be close to you.

Honestly, not really. Same like the West Nile, bird flu... all that stuff.

Now West Nile is something I take seriously and take serious precautions against - living in FL, it would just be foolhardy to do otherwise.

Milo has a lot of respiratory problems, so I'm concerned. But I'm concerned about a lot of things like that. We take precautions, anyway. The first US death was just confirmed in a toddler, too. I am worried about my kids whenever something like this comes up. They shut down a nearby high school that has a group just returning from Mexico with a lot of sick kids. Wish us luck!

I talked to oncologist about this. He said to take the same precautions we always take and not to panic. But if we have any flu symptoms in the family, to get the entire family in immediately Tamiflu is being used to treat this. And if Joey shows any symptoms to not hesitate and bring him in immediately and they will start treatment.

Same here. We need to buy Tamiflu still...

Oh, and as for West Nile, we're in Alabama, so we have to watch out, too! All sorts of other "pest-y" diseases, too. I'm wondering if this will be a good way to convince DH that we need to move back to a much colder climate.

ditzzy, we will be in same day surg at 10 on friday too. Maybe we will see you there. I dont know that we will be in waiting though cuz we have to go to the hem/onc clinic first for treatments.

We are watching closely and being careful, but thats all we can do now

I think one of the reasons I'm so freaked is DH works at an airport.

We are taking extra precautions as best we can. We have facemasks everywhere and from now on he will be wearing one at work.

But he works at an airport. He boards every single flight to confirm with the pilots what fuel load they need. Yea. Not too thrilled about his job right now.

I'm worried a bit. Kyle has a weakened immune system and prone to respiratory problems (we were just in and out of the hospital twice for various health issues that also included him needing O2). And there are now two confirmed cases near us. We're going to watch it closely, and if necessary, just pull him out of school for a week. There are a lot of commuters out this way, and there are 5 cases. 4 in two parts of the burbs - and one in the city. I can't see it slowing from there, but we can hope.

Kyle can't get the flu shot either.

My DS started in on the whole "swine flu" thing. I explained it came from a Mexico & stuff. (tried not to elaborate much b/c he's 8 & doesn't understand a lot of the terms). He said to me "I've been to Mexico"....yes, but that was when you were 4, you're going to be 9...don't go around telling people you just got back from there or you have the swine flu b/c you went to Mexico...4 year's ago.
