Here are some commonly used special needs abbreviations and acronyms. If you can think of any not included, please pm me and I'll add it.

ABA: applied behavioral analysis
ASD - autistic spectrum disorder
AS - aspergers syndrome
AFO - Ankle Foot Orthotic
ADD - Attention Deficit Disorder
ADHD - Attention deficit and hyperactivity disorder
ASD - Atrial Septal Defect
AFO - Ankle Foot orthotic
ALL - Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia

COA - Coerctation of Aorta
CP - cerebral palsy
CPSE - committee on preschool special education
CI - Cochlear Implants
CAPD - Central auditory processing disorder
CdLS - Cornelia de Lange Syndrome
CMV - Cytomegalovirus

DS - Down syndrome
DSI - dysfunction in sensory integeration (new name for SID)
DAFO - Dynamic ankle foot orthotic
DD - Developmental delays

ECSE - Early Childhood Special Educator
EI - Early Intervention
EE - eosinophilic esophagitis
EOS - eosinophilic disorder

FTT- Failure to thrive
FAS - Fetal alcohol syndrome

GERD - Gastroesophageal reflux disease

HFA - high functioning autism

ISC - inital service coordinator
IEP - Individualized Education Plan
IFSP - Individualized Family Service Plan
ITS - Infant/Toddler Services

JPA tumor - juvenile pilocytic astrocytoma tumor

KAFO - Knee ankle foot orthotic

LCH - Langerhans' Cell Histiocytosis
LMC - Lipomyelomeningocele

MR - Mental Retardation
MWS - Mowat-Wilson Syndrome

NT- neurotypical (ie, non-autistic)
NLD/NVLD - Non-verbal learning disorder
NEC - Nectrotizing Enterocolitis

OT - occupational therapy
OSC - ongoing service coordinator
OCD - Obsessive compulsive disorder
ODD - Oppositional Defiant disorder

PT - physical therapy
PDD - Pervasive Development Disorder
PDD-NOS= Pervasive Developmental Disorder- Not Otherwise Specified
PDA - Patent Ductus Arteriosus

RDI - relationship development intervention
RT - Respiratory therapist
ROP - Reinopathy of prematurity

ST: speech therapy
SID - sensory integration dysfunction
SPD - sensory processing disorder
SN - special needs.
SMO - Supramalleolar orthotic
SB - Spina Bifida
SLP - Speech Language Pathologist (Speech Therapist)
SMA - Spinal Muscular Atrophy

TCS - Tethered Cord Syndrome
TOF - Tetralogy of Fallot

VSD - Ventricular Septal Defect
