OMG, I completely forgot about SSI. Anika's diagnosis isn't official yet, as we've changed Neurologists (first appt. November 10), but when she was first diagnosed with Reactive Airway Disease, a social worker came into the exam room and discussed SSI with me. She said that Anika probably qualified with her chronic health problems and that I should apply for her. At the time, no one had explained to me that they decided Anika's conitions were chronic, so I thought this woman was thinking Anika was worse than she was. I also couldn't understand what I would need SSI for, since all of Anika's meds and hospitalizations are covered 100%. Of course, I've never taken into account how much gas money I go through taking her all over Southern California to her many Dr. appointments, and now her therapies are in a city 30 minutes or more away (we'll be going there twice a week) PLUS I have to pay for child care for Madison and Corbin while we're at therapy. Not to mention that she is probably going to be prescribed AFO's shortly (I hope so anyway, I can't stand her falling all the time). Anyway, how do I go about applying?
I'm sorry to take your post Nelsy, it doesn't sound like McKayla should have any trouble qualifying with all that she's going through. Good luck and keep us posted.

It's okay Dori. Here's the number for Social Security 1-800-772-1213. It's a toll free number. Just tell them that you want to apply for SSI for your daughter. Tell them what state and city you live in. They will then give you a phone appointment with the nearest social security office near you. They will call exactly on the date and time that they say and they will take your application over the phone. After that they will send you all these papers that you have to sign and send back. Good luck and let me know how it goes.
