One of my friends just had her first child by planned c/s last week. It makes me so angry and I don't want to upset her so I'm going to vent here. She had a late u/s at 34ish weeks and her OB thought she would have a big baby (she did have GD but her sugars were well controlled the whole pg.) Well he scared her into thinking about how horrible it would be to try to birth a "big" baby, especially since they were thinking she would have an 8 lb'er. And to put this into perspective my friend is 5' 9" and although not obese she carries a bigger frame so I fail to see why anyone should have been worried about her pelvic size, she's never had any kind of pelvic injury or defect either. First they scheduled an induction for 38w 3d, then a week before the induction the idiot starts telling her about how inductions have a super high fail rate (I wonder why you moron) and that it would be so much worse if they induce and then have to do a c/s. So rather than just wait for baby the quack convinces her to just schedule a c/s for 38w 2d so she won't have to labor then get cut. It burns me up thinking about one more untried pelvis being called unfit, and one more uterus with a completely unneccessary scar. I really wish I could just go on a rampage and start back-handing these stupid, closed-minded OBs who only have their own interests in mind! Okay, vent over.

That's absolutely horrible! I can totally see why you would be upset. I'm upset and she's not even my friend.

I agree with the other ladies. That's so sad. It makes me upset. I'm sure being the first time Mom she was easy to scare since she didn't know much of anything. I bet if she has more kids she may do more research and realize it was unnecessary and then she'll regret it.

She was about 8.5 lbs, just a hair above average. Ughh, I am so sick of hearing about 8 lbs being sooooo "big." Especially since true macrosomia is 9lbs 15 oz. Although I think this is too low personally. Women are capable of birthing 10 lb + babies just fine if the intereventions and epidurals are left out of the picture.

8.5lbs?!!! I still can't believe they didn't even let her try. What's even crazier, is that she fell right for it and just let them slice her open for NOTHING!!

Yeah, first baby with no research. She got blindsided. I am having a very hard time with the fact that OBs are telling first time moms that an 8 lb baby is too big to birth with an untried pelvis. There really needs to be some kind of accountability for the OBs that women place trust in.
