I've only posted here a few times, but have lurked quite often. I believe the last time I posted was when my little girl decided to go breech during my 36th week. Well, after lots of spinning exercises, she did turn.
As I got closer to my due date (12.19), I had a couple vaginal checks and no progress. Which I know doesn't mean much, but ya know...can be discouraging. My midwife and doctors did not want me going past 42 weeks. So by 41 weeks, I was getting nervous. They didn't even want to attempt to induce me with a cervix at just 1cm. I did allow my OB to "stretch" me to a 3cm...in hopes to get things started or at least get my cervix a little more favorable. At that appointment, she set up an induction. I was immediately put in a bad mood...not mad at her, but just wish things would have gone differently. I only had one day until the induction. I was SO emotional that day. SO scared about the induction. Especially considering my risks for needing a c-section would go up with each medical intervention. I fought with my husband most of the day about cleaning up, because "hello..we are having a baby tomorrow!!" Around 5:30 that evening, he was feeding the kids their dinner. I went to the bathroom and that is when the best thing happened! My water broke!!!! Contractions immediately started at 3 minutes apart. I went into labor naturally. For the first time ever (this is my fifth baby). What a relief. I will spare you all of the details.....but my little girl was born very early the next morning (one hour before my schedule induction) at 5:07am. She weighed 8lbs 13oz and was 22inches long. I did end up with an epidural, but I was able to hold off until I was 6cm. This was a personal goal of mine, because I knew I would be stuck in bed after that. Anyway, if you want to read the story, I posted in my playroom... The birth of Clara Joy.
I wanted to thank you ladies for the inspiration and encouragement. Clara's birth was the most beautiful and amazing birth I have experienced. In a way, my c-section was a sort of blessing. If I never had a c-section, I probably wouldn't have researched so much about the medical interventions. My first three were inductions and I was under the same impression many women are...."what's the big deal." It wasn't until I did my VBAC research did I really learn that an induction IS a big deal....and not necessarily safe. So, I'm sure if my last was another induced vaginal birth...this one would have been as well.
