My cousin had some fertility problems and was given metformin along with clomide i think? What do you all think of that? she suggested that I ask my doctor for it because it would help with ovulating but I am not sure....it is 1st for lowering blood sugar and diabetes...since I do not have high blood sugar or diabetes, will that be bad for me? I'm not sure f it is bad to have low blood sugar or whether it would lower it a lot since my level is regular....I need feedback! thanks!

If you have PCOS (if you haven't been tested for it, definately do ask to be tested! It is a lot more common than most women think, and while weight issues can be a common symptom, there are a lot of women who are as skinny as can be and have PCOS) then it will definately help you in your TTC journey. Even though it is a drug for diabetics, for some reason, it really does help a lot of women conceive, especially in combination with clomid if you doctor suggests it.

If you have been TTC more than a year, I'd definately run to the doctor and get tested and discuss with him/her.

On another note, my husband agreed tpo do a SA, cool huh? I waskind of afraid he would be against it, getting defensive or something but he was totally up for it! does anyone know if these kinds of things (not only his test, but medical hep in general with ferility) is covered by insurances or not usually? Just wondering.

I don't know if it will help you any, but my doctor put me on Metaformin back in August not because of PCOS but due to low insulin levels. They thought that might be what was making my cycle irregular, and were hoping this medication would help in getting everything back on track.

Good Luck!!!

You would have to check with your insurance company. Just give them a call and ask them what all they cover. Alot of tests on you can be covered even if they don't cover fertility treatments, because your gynocologist can write them up as medically needed instead of just for fertility issues. HTH

Well, I can talk about metformin from a diabetic aspect, LOL. It is the first pill any type 2 diabetic gets put on. It is supposed to somehow make your cells use the insulin already present in your body better, so it shouldn't be an issue taking it even without the diabetes. The side effects can be overwhelming at first, but do go away usually after a couple weeks. Stomach upset, diarrhea, gas..... Make sure if you do get it, take it with food.

By the way, the generic version of Met is in the $4 Wal-Mart prescriptions from what I remember. Of course if your insurance covers the entire cost of prescriptions, it doesn't matter, but if it doesn't, it always gives you more $$$ to spend on other TTC stuff.
