I think it's kind of neat, but I don't think it's a must have. We are planning on getting one of those with the pad those goes under the mattress and detects breathing, etc.

We have a monitor, but I don't think we will get much use out of it since we are going to co-sleep.

I would definetly love one of this, that way if I'm cooking or washing I can make sure the baby does not turn KWIM?

I don't really think it's a must have but DH has mentioned several times when we have been browsing and looking at things that he would love to have one when we eventually have a baby so I guess since he wants it, we'll probably get one. He's crazy about his electronics lol

I'm sure my DH would want one, but I couldn't justify spend the money they want for those things. We have a monitor already that would due. We plan on having the baby in our room for about 3 months (in it's crib) then move it into it's own room which is right next door.

For me, we will most likely set up a web cam on the baby. You can get them that are wireless and connect though a wireless connection to the computers for like $15. Then DH has a web site where you can set up an account to view the cam. Password protected so only we (or people we give the password to, maybe my mom or sister) can get to it. We have computers ALL over the house (it is what DH does.) Plus then if one of us is away from the house, but near internet and want to check it, we can.

I haven't seen the mats that detect breathing, I will have to look for those.

I've heard those mats don't work. Sometimes if the baby doesn't move they will go off waking the baby.
