My husband and I have been TTC#1 for 1 year. I am 28 and have a history or irregular periods (last calendar year they have ranged between 25 cd-50 cd...most of them are over 35 cd). All blood work has been normal (FSH, prolactin, hydroxyprogesterone, glucose, cholesterol).

I have an appointment scheduled with an RE for September (didn't want to schedule earlier because of summer traveling). What types of tests do you think he will do and what treatments will he suggest? Do you think it would be too aggressive to suggest clomid and IUI to start with? And besides cost, what are the negatives to starting aggressively with infertility treatments?

Thanks for your help!

Hi! Welcome to the board!! I am Tabby(27) co-host, Married to Ryan(28) and TTC #1 for 5 years. Hope you make yourself at home and if you have any questions feel free to ask!

When you had bloodwork did they check your Estrogen and Testosterone levels? It sounds to me like you could have PCOS. I have struggled with it since I was 14 and sometimes my cycles are clockwork and sometimes they sound about like yours.

Hi Tabby...thank you for the warm welcome!! Sounds like you have been trying for a long time...I hope I can offer you support.

My estrogen and testosterone were normal as well. I don't have any of the outward physical signs (I'm normal weight, no excess hair, etc.). My primary care doesn't think I have PCOS...however, I still think that I might. I'm looking forward to going to the RE (who also specializes in PCOS) and seeing what he thinks. I wanted my primary care to have me do an u/s before my first RE appointment but she didn't want to do it yet. So I will just wait until September. My ob/gyn was of no help (I will be moving to a different practice)...the only thing she said to me was "I have hope for you". Thanks, but I was looking for some medical advice.

In your struggles with PCOS...have you tried any fertility treatments? What has your experience been? How did you prepare for your first RE appointment?

Have a great start to the weekend!!!

I am still waiting for my RE appt so I don't have any personal experience. I recently read the book "A Few Good Eggs - 2 Chicks Dish About Infertility" - in it they list a number of questions that you should ask your RE at your first visit. They were really good and I wish I had written them down. Good luck.
