Ladies, I'll probably be MIA a good bit today. It's been raining all night and all day. My basement flooded and there is something wrong with my pump! It won't activate on it's own so I have to keep manually kicking it on every 5 minutes or else the whole basement floods in no time. (It was knee deep at one point. UGH! Hopefully the rain lets up soon and we can figure out what's wrong with this stupid pump. Until then, I'm getting a great workout on the steps! lol

There is supposed to be some major flooding about 12 miles south of us where DH's grandparents live. If we end up down there helping move stuff or even just checking on them (phone lines keep going down) I might end up with some flood pictures later.

The news is reporting that we got 7 - 9 inches of rain. I thought more! Flood warnings have been extended to midnight and we are supposed to continue getting rain every day until Tuesday! My basement is still under water. I keep running down every little bit and fixing the pump. It works on it's own for a while but every 15 - 30 minutes it clogs up and has to be fixed. Soooo annoying.

Here's an update I posted on another board where they asked about it:
Quote:
Here's the news.
Rain in Southern Iowa
Highway 2 that it refers to is the main road through my town. Mt.Ayr (the town it talks about) is 15 miles west of me. I used to work there. Flood warnings have now been extended until midnight and it's supposed to rain every day between now and TUESDAY!

This isn't getting any better!

ETA: If you look at that map in that news story.....clear at the bottom there is one county in yellow. I live in the next county over, but right on the county line, so we are getting all that crap too.[/b]

How is your pump clogging? Did something get into the hole around it? I know the pump in our building doesn't work, but the landlord either intentionally or unintentionally allowed the hole to fill with dirt so the whole thing is worthless.

There is so much water coming in in so many places that there is like a quarter to a half of an inch of mud everywhere now. I JUST cleaned that basement out recently and now I'm gonna need a flipping shovel to get all the dirt out!!! Anywhoo, the dirt keeps washing into the pump and clogging it.

If you can figure out where the dirt is coming in at I would try to get it blocked off. Since you just cleaned it it almost sounds like your basement has large cracks in it somewhere letting everything in.

I've found about 12 leaks so far. all around the size of my little finger. All I can do for now is mark them and repair them later. Everything I've tried to do to block them hasn't worked. It's frustrating. I really want to move now, and we just moved back in here in january! lol I want a new house!

Ouch, that's a lot of holes. You may just want to have the whole basement sealed if that isn't your plan already. The only thing I can think of that might help is jamming cork in the holes, but that's a lot of cork.
