hi ladies, I have a doctors appointment on wednesday, with a neurosurgeon, (a second opinion, for my back/ruptured disks) so hopefully he will be able to help me, or at least let me know if he beleives surgery will help, I am just so nervous about going because I know he will say something about my weight.

I hope everything goes well. Most of the disks in my mom's back are bad so hers is beyond surgery. I hope they can do something to help yours. Please keep us posted.

Which hospital are you going to? My Dad was in and out of several hospitals there for his back problems before he passed away. Dad was a truck driver, and a guy in a Ford Escort cut him off. People seem to think that those trucks can stop as quickly as a car can, and they just can't. They guy in the car was drunk and stoned. When he pulled in front of Dad on the highway. Amazingly he walked away without a scratch, but my Dad spent the rest of his life disabled. He saw a ton of different doctors trying to get someone to help him, but unfortunately his back was just too bad for anyone to even risk doing the surgery. I might know the doctor you are seeing though, depending on what hospital you'll be using.

I am going to the old beckley hospital, Dr. Patel, I have already seen Dr. Crow with Charleston Neaurological Associates. Sorry to hear about your dad, my dad also has ruptured disks, ours is caused in part by degenritive disk disease, and Dad fell off an excavator, and I took a tumble down the stairs in a rolling chair at my last job. I am hoping this doctor can give me some kinda hope, I want to feel better, and I know that being pregnant will be hard (ie no pain meds) but I want another baby so bad, so maybe he can advise me on whether or not surgery would help, or give me something that would help and be safe while pregnant. Thank you ladies for your support and understanding.

Have you talked to anybody about swimming for physical therapy? That's what my mom did and it helped. While she could anyways. She was on pain meds as well, but had to go off of them years ago for insurance reasons. Her disks are displaced though, not ruptured. I'm not sure how much of a difference that would make.

I haven't tried swimming, (I don't know how, would love to learn). Hope your mom gets to feeling better, I think displaced is a bit different, pain wise though I am unsure, the only thing that has helped me so far, is cortisone shots, but i quit taking those when we started ttc.

Hers causes a lot of pain and they told her when they diagnosed her that she'd be in a wheelchair within six months. That was over 10 years ago, thankfully. She didn't swim swim, but mostly walked around in the water. It provides her with some pain relief and is a way to exercise her back that doesn't risk making it worse. The last time they did an MRI only a few disks weren't displaced and that was so long ago I'm sure they've joined the club. Her scan images aren't pretty.

I think I know Dr. Patel. I could be wrong, but if I am right (they name sounds familiar anyway) he's a great doctor. I hope you get some good news from at your appointment.

Well I went to the back dr. today and he told me that I have two ruptures and a pinched nerve, and he thinks some of the pain in my left leg is due to my knee, so he is sending me to have an mri of my knee, and to a specialist (he thinks i need knee surgery, no cartlidge between my knee). So I am kinda depressed because he does want me to quit ttc until I have my knee worked on. I am trying not to be upset about it, but I am scared and upset, we've been trying for almost a year and now we are going to have to postpone, and i am not getting any younger.

Just be thankful that you found out about your knee now and not during pregnancy. Problems like that can be majorly amplified by the added stress on the joint. Do you know how long the process will take?

At least that isn't far away. Usually if a joint is bad enough to require surgery they move quickly. Hopefully you'll be TTC again in the blink of an eye.

I'm sorry that you have to put TTC on hold, but it's definitely better to get it taken care of now rather than later. And like Anna, I hope you are able to start TTC again soon. Good luck with the MRI on the 8th. Make sure you KUP!

Oh, I'm sorry. I had to put TTC on hold more than once for medical reasons too. Time will pass quickly. Just make sure you take care of yourself first.
