Has your child ever had someone close to the pass away? How did you explain it to them?

No. My dad and stepdad are in heaven and we try and tell her about them. When she is a little older I will bring her to the cemetary with balloons to send to heaven with notes, but right now I really don't think I could pry the balloon out of her hand she is obsessed with them..haha

Their Uncle (my ex-BIL) passed away when Sierra was four. In 2004 their cousin was killed in Iraq. My Granny passed away 2005 so Will was 4 and Sierra was 7. The following year my Godfather passed and their father's uncle died also. Then last year my father lost his battle with cancer.

With the first two or three deaths we just said they were sick, or had gotten hurt and had to go to heaven. When we went to the funeral home, I explained that they would look like they were sleeping, but that they weren't they had gone to heaven. Sierra told Will that the casket was a "special bed" that took them to heaven.

When my Godfather passed away they were older so I explained to them that he was really sick and hurt really bad so God took him to heaven to take away the pain. By the time my Dad died, they've had so much of it that there wasn't anything to explain anymore.

My mom died when DS was 4 months old, so he was and is too young to need explaining.
