yes, I think allowances are great for teaching money management, and that you have to earn your own income, cause my lil man will have a list of chores that he must to earn his allowance.

We do things a little differently than some do. We just started it this week but so far it seems to be working great. I'll have to let you know later. We printed up Family Bucks. For each chore they earn family bucks. There are then things they can spend those family bucks on. (25 family bucks earns 30 minutes of tv/computer/video game time) or they can cash the family bucks in on actual money. (though 100 family bucks are worth $1 because they are fairly easy to earn) So far it's working great, and the kids are actually racing to do chores that they used to fight over who had to do it in the past!
