I had to take my little man back to the doctor today, because he has still been waking up coughing during the night ( they thought it was allergies at first, however allergy meds did not help, and he was coughing to the point of gagging) so they di test on him and found that my tiny little man has asthma and put him on albuterol liquid, and singular in case allergens are his triggers, and put 2 months refills on them and wants me to bring him back if he gets worse and if not then I have an appointment scheduled for 2 months from now. They ask does anyone smoke around him, which they don't, so I am just trying to figure out, how often do young children end up getting asthma.

do you have a family history of it? Alot of our family has it so the pedi told us tay was at a higher risk for it...but knock on wood no signs yet. My nephew has it, he is 4 and 1/2 now he has been on meds since he was very small...1 or so...but it has gotten a lot better though. They told sil that alot of kids out grow it. Dh did!

My sister has it, but dh and I have never been diagnosed with it as far as I know. I hate that he has, and was concerned that his grandpa might have smoked around him, my mother in law and keeps him for me when I have doc appointments and my father in law has promised me that he would never smoke around Caleb at at and I was concerned that maybe he is sneaking and doing so. I am extremely paranoid

Vicki.....this isn't because of anything anyone did. While I do not think smoking is a good thing....especially near small children, I am an ex-smoker. I have to admit that yes, I smoked around my children all the time. I'm not proud of it, but I did and neither of them developed asthma. I'm sorry that you are having to go through this, but I'm sure it has nothing to do with surroundings and is just something that was in his genetic make-up. I really hope he will outgrow it.

Amber has asthma she was diagnosed almost the same way your son was. Ambers asthma started when she was 1, and the doctor told us it was probably since she was a premiee and it runs in dh family. He told us hopefully she would outgrow it. As she got older it got easier to control. She tends to have asthma attacks mainly in the fall and winter months. We have noticed that as long as she gets her flu shot and albuterol daily before her p.e class in those seasons her asthma attacks are very mild. I know it's hard and we can't help but worry. I hope you feel better, it's not anything we do or don't do unfortunately it's something that happens. Hopefully he will outgrow it or you can control it easily. Best of Luck

Thanks ladies, I was so afraid it was something I had done or didn't do, or let him be exposed to, I gave him the albuterol and the singular yesterday, and last night he did not wake up coughing, so thus far the treatment is working. I am so glad to have you ladies who know about this kinda stuff, thanks so very much for your support.
