I used to do this with my Granny. That little girl is probably in her mid 20's now. DH and I plan to do something like that in the future when we are in better financial shape. Right now we are more focused on taking care of those in our community. We buy things for back to school and donate to local children in need, we adopt an angel at Christmas, and we frequently donate to the local food pantry and to the good samaritan fund at our church. (That helps people in need traveling through our community if they were to break down or something and didn't have the money for food, lodging, or car repairs. It also goes to local people who are in a tight spot and need help paying their utilities or buying food.)
