I just wanted to pop in and quickly share my story. Maybe it can be something that inspires someone, or maybe my experience might connect to yours.
My first child was conceived after 7 mo. of trying. After 6 weeks I miscarried naturally. My DH and I decided to not listen to the Dr.'s advice to wait 3 months, and Antonio Peter was conceived pretty close to 14 days after the miscarriage. I carried him to past term and delivered all 10 lbs 11 oz. naturally on Nov. 17 2005. 6 weeks later I went on the mini pill because of breastfeeding, but discontinued it when TJ was 6 mo. old as we were ready to expand our family.
When TJ was 10 mo. I thought I got my cycle back. I was still breastfeeding but had returned to work in August of 2006 ( I am a teacher) and was pumping quite a bit. At the end of September I experienced the most horrible pains, and after a pregnancy test and an ultrasound it was determined that I had an ectopic pregnancy. I was lucky that it wasn't worse. I had internal bleeding, but the fallopian tube was saved by a very excellent OB.
After 3 months we continued to try to conceive. In June of the following year (9 months later) I had my progesterone tested and had an HSG done. My tubes were clear (the fear was that I may have had scarring from the surgery). My blood tests looked good. At the end of July I was pregnant again. We went 10 weeks this time, and on my 35th birthday I had an ultrasound and there was no heartbeat. I had a D&C on the 19th of Sept. of 2007.
We waited one month (after discussing this with my OB) and started trying again. 2 months later, on December 23rd, 2007 I was pregnant again. This time my OB was very careful to track my progesterone levels, even though they checked out normally before ovulation, she wasn't so sure of what was going on after implantation. I also had my first ultrasound at 6 weeks. There was a heartbeat, but that week my progesterone dropped from 23 to 12. She put me immediately on progesterone supplements (oral--Prometrium) and I took this until 11 weeks. I continued to have my progesterone levels followed until then.
I had a normal pregnancy and delivered naturally Michael David on Sept. 3. Ironically two of my losses were also in Sept. each of the two previous years.
Our infertility journey ended 29 months from when we first started trying for our second baby.
I wonder if my progesterone level are what caused the loss of the 4th pregnancy at 10 weeks... I will never know.
For those of you waiting, hang in there.
