I went for a checkup/annual exam today. The doctor told me that I need to ttc asap. I had an ectopic pregnancy that ruptured this past October. He did the surgery to remove it and repair the tube. After the surgery he said I only had a 15% chance of another ectopic. He said I had no scarring and everything looked fine internally, other than the scar I would have from the surgery. Today he told me that if that tube was blocked chances are the other one will be. He said if I have another ectopic than I won't be able to have another baby. He said I only have one tube to conceive with???. I have no idea what he was talking about. He told me originally he fixed my left tube, so I don't know if he meant I didn't have a right one at all or what. I told him we would try when I thought I would ovulate on the right side, and he told me there is no way to tell and the tube would go to whichever ovary it needed to. I cramp really bad on my left side every other month at ovulation time. I just assumed that was because I had scarring on the left that would cause it there but not on the right. I think I am going to get a second opinion. I don't like that he gives me no other option but to try to see if I get another ectopic. I know there are tests available to see if the tubes are blocked. Wouldn't he tell me straight out if I only had one tube to begin with? I know this is a rant, but I need some opinions. Do any of you ladies have a history of ectopic or blocked tubes? Should I get a second opinion?

Well, I'm not sure that I can be much help at all. I do only have 1 tube though myself (one was removed with surgery along with it's corresponding ovary). I think I would definately get a 2nd opinion. An HSG is used to test for blocked tubes - basically they but dye into your uterus & it should spill out through your tubes if they aren't blocked. I do agree that you might not be able to tell when you ovulate from the right side so you might be chancing another ectopic - IDK! I do know that the way your ovaries work is that several eggs start growing on both ovaries & whichever egg matures first bursts out into it's corresponding tube - now you could O from your left side 2 months in a row or even 5 months in a row - there is no guarantee that you O from the left side one month, then the right the next month. With all this technology though there just HAS to be some way to monitor it but you may have to see a specialist (an RE) to do that.

GL & I hope some of this helps & doesn't scare you more.

I really think I would get a second opinion, I am quite sure a RE could monitor your ovaries through a sonogram and see which side was maturing faster, or they could do an IUI, which would take the scariness out of it, as it is placeds where it needs to be. I know I am not allot of help on this subject, sorry.

To answer the bolded question.....ABSOLUTELY. If this doctor told you the other bolded statement, then he honestly has no clue what he is talking about. Your tubes CANNOT move from one ovary to the other. Yes, you can ovulate from either ovary, and it doesn't necessarily flip flop like most think. (I've ovulated from the left 5 months in a row that I know of, this is the first month in a long time that I ovulated from the right side.) There isn't any way to know except for with ultrasound monitoring which side you are going to ovulate from. It sounds to me like this doctor has told you two completely different things, so I would definitely get a second opinion, and with an RE (reproductive endocrinologist) if possible.

Good luck and welcome to the group!

Have they done an HSG on you? I think you should get a 2nd opinion and some testing done-good luck!

They haven't done any tests. I am on Medicare at the moment, so doctors in the area give you the minimal amount of care because they know the state won't pay for it. I will get new insurance in a few months; my husband just started a new job. I have had regular periods since my ectopic up until last month. My period lasted a day and a half, and this month I am 2 days late. I will probably have to schedule an appointment in a different area because there are no Ob/Gyn where we live. I've been driving 45 minutes to get to one, but the next city from that is 1:30 away. After my surgery I left lost and so confused because the doctor was so vague with the answers he gave me. He did say that I would have a good chance of having another baby. I just don't get why 5 months later he tells me something completely different.
