I finally got my laptop! YAY! I didn't get the one I originally planned on getting though. I had ordered a Dell, and after them delaying my order yet AGAIN, I canceled it. After I got off the phone I went to WalMart and picked up a Compaq Presario and ended up saving money! It was nearly $100 less than the Dell.

If anyone is thinking of buying a Dell, I really have to recommend against it. I placed my order on the 13th and they originally said I would have it on the 2nd of March. They changed that several times and it was going to be nearly April before I got it!

That's great that you got it, if I am not mistaking, Compaq is actually made by the same company as dell, I bet you are loving it, I want a laptop so bad

It's great! It's so nice being able to sit in my recliner, watching tv and posting at the same time! I'm really hoping that I'll "NEED" this soon too. I figure if I do get pregnant anytime soon my RE is going to consider me high risk at least for the first trimester because of all my losses. He is going to want me to rest as much as possible so having this is going to come in handy! lol

ETA: Compaq is actually made by Hewlitt Packard...not Dell. I checked on that because I was so upset that I didn't want to give Dell any money! lol

My life improved drastically when we got our laptops! Our desktop was in the unfinished basement with the spiders and snakes-close enough anyhow! Odd, we have three Dells in the house, and we've never had issues with orders or repairs-maybe they're getting busier and slower?

I had always heard great things about Dell too. They were honestly the only company that I was even considering and I told them that. And honestly....if they had acted the least bit sympathetic or even offered to knock of the shipping cost or something I would have probably stuck it out. I was just already annoyed and so I called to find out why it kept getting delayed. The first guy I talked to (using online chat) was absolutely no help. He just gave me the standard....the type of order you place, your payment method, and your shipping choices all affect your delivery date...BLAH BLAH BLAH answers. So then I called in because I wanted to know why exactly it was taking so long. I had ordered a very basic laptop, only adding a tv tuner. I could have bought that separately and installed it myself if that was the only thing holding it up. So first the guy on the phone said they were waiting for parts. Then he said that it was built and in testing to make sure all components were working properly. He said it would ship in two days. I asked when I would get it and he quoted a date at the end of March. When I asked why shipping was going to take so long (I paid for 3-5 day delivery) he said there was no guarantee that it would ship out the day he thought it would. I asked again..when would it leave the factory and he said "I assure you it will ship out within 2 business days at the latest." (making it Monday) so that meant it should be here by Friday March 6th. So I said....then it should be here on the 6th? and he again said.... "No ma'am, your computer will be delivered on March 26th."

After all that talking in circles I decided they obviously had no idea what was going on so I canceled the order.

Just lurking... Congrats Steph! I've heard Dell's customer service had really really gone down hill. My friend had one that was still under warranty that burnt out, the think literally over heated that it burnt the motherboard. Dell refused to replace it. She ended up just going to the store and buying an HP. She's had no issues with the HP.

So far in my experience Apple has the best customer service, with people that are actually in the US. I was shocked when I had to call them about my cat breaking my charging cord. I told them that but since it was still within their warranty they overnighted me a new power cord. Then a week later someone called back to make sure it was working. I was so impressed I bought the extended warranty from them. Although they are more expensive than PCs they are well built.

Congrats on getting your laptop even if it's not the one you originally wanted. I work at a store that sells computers and I've heard a lot of bad things about Dell's customer service.

Congrats. I am wary about buying a computer from Wal-mart, but I hope it works out great for you!

I got my desktop from WalMart two years ago and it still works great. We've never had any problems other than the time that my DD deleted something she shouldn't have and then the customer service was wonderful.

With my laptop I have a one year warranty through Compaq and then another 2 years through WalMart.
