Hi, I think I recognize some ladies over here. I was on the ttc board for awhile and then took a break on ttc. Hoping to be back in the game soon.

Well I am wondering if I may have secondary infertility. I have 2 girls and conceived on the very first try with both. I tried for about 6mths for our 3rd with nothing. Then took a break but tried several of those mths too so not really counting that. I use to be fertile mertile and now nothing. I do have thyroid issues now and some sort of mass in my abdomen. The Dr said it didnt look cancerous so opted not to have surgery until after I conceive our 3rd. Not sure if maybe that has something to do with it or not.

I am also 34. Should I try longer before thinking I have infertility issues? I really would like to see a Dr and find out what is wrong. Not sure my insurance would cover it though. I guess they would consider it infertility work up right?

Thanks,
Brandi

I've seen you around on Christian Parenting & Thyroid Disorders! You are hypo so I'd bet you most definately have Secondary Infertility!

Ugh... JM just ate most of my post! Note: don't use the edit function! Okay so let's try again...
You're 34, hypo, & have already tried for 6 months - it's time to see a dr but that's just my opinion. With hypo, you tend to also have a progesterone deficiency &/or a LP defect so I HIGHLY recommend having your OB run a CD 23 (progesterone) test. My last OB didn't b/c he was clueless so I found one who KNOWS what he's doing. We ran a progesterone test & of course it's low so this is my 2nd cycle on Clomid which I hope is the answer to our infertility issues! GL & I hope & pray you get your soon!

Welcome to the group Brandi. I remember you from the TTC board. I used to be ~*~ThePastorsWife~*~.
In my opinion, I would go ahead and see a doctor. My insurance doesn't cover infertility treatments but it does cover testing. If your insurance doesn't cover testing either, most doctors will code the tests in such a way that it is covered. That is especially possible if you have irregular periods (even just if they are longer or shorter than 28 days) by saying it's women's health instead of fertility issues.
They generally say that if you have been having unprotected sex for over a year they will do tests and treatments, but at 35 they change that to 6 months instead of a year. Some doctors will go with that somewhere between 32-35.

Either way, I am looking forward to getting to know you better. I hope you stick around here. Good luck hun. I hope you get your BFP soon and don't need the doctor after all.

Oh yes I remember you too. That is good to know that the testing may be covered. I think I will make an appointment.

I wonder if I go to my thyroid Dr and ask for those test if she would run them? It seems hormones would need to be checked with that as well.

I hope it happens soon and maybe I wont have to go through alot.

The CD 23 progesterone test is usually covered by your OB but IDK, maybe a thyroid dr would cover it. I know my last thyroid dr who was also a family dr did run a full hormone panel but she didn't tie it to a specific CD, which to really detect a progesterone defect it needs to be tested on day 23 by a dr who understands a little more about fertility (i.e. your OB. I'd start with my OB, I'm sure your insurance will cover most of it if it is through an OB anyway. I think the real money is going to start when you have to see an RE, which hopefully won't happen. Hopefully you'll get your BFP before seeing an RE.
