Without getting into a long story I have a question. Has anyone had issues with Prolactin levels? We have been trying to conceive for 8 months, I went off bc in Sept. and have had wacky cycles since. If I squeeze my nipples I can express a milky substance, this has been going on for 2 years maybe. I never thought anything of it but have been researching infertility and came across prolactin levels being too high. I have an appointment on Thursday with my doc. Anyone have experience or know anything about this? I feel stupid for not cluing in sooner..like maybe 2 years ago. I should also mention that I have a 3 year old so I know I can get pregnant.

UPDATE: So I saw my doc today. She looked back a few months in her files and my prolactin levels were normal at 8.3. What the hell is going on? She referred me to a gyno/specialist to see what the hell is going on with me. I told her I know I am not ovulating because of my really long cycles and light af's. So I have to wait to get an appointment. She said it probably wouldn't take long because he is male and women don't want to see male gyno's. I have no problem with a male gyno at this point! She also said usually when she refers someone it has to be after a year of trying and when she does refer them they usually get pregnant. Here's hoping! I really don't want to have to take fertility drugs but I will if it comes to that. Anyways just wanted to update.

I'm sorry I'm of no help but I know Jenny (JCT2005 - JustMommies Message Boards - View Profile: JCT2005) knows something about that since she has the same issues herself. GL & I hope you conceive soon... I know how hard it can be waiting.

I had that when TTC#1, first they had to do a head ct to see if that was the cause of the high prolactin, mine was clear, so by adjusting my thyroid meds my level came down and I got pg with DS shortly after. Good luck!

I don't know much about prolactin levels except that it's a problem that is easy to correct with the right medicine. Good luck, and I hope you stick around here with us.

Hello! I am new to this side of the board but have been ttc my no2 for 2yrs now. I am nursing my first child though so, as you may know, nursing is said to lower progesterone (hormone needed for pregnancy) by raising prolactin. Therefore I feel I may be able to give you advise despite nursing not being the issue for you.
My daughter is only on three nursings at night now and as many nursing mothers can still get pregs I feel my 'issues' are more about me and my hormones being out of whack than from the nursing itself and that has led me to search for a 'cure'.
Firstly its possible your hormones just got messed and never righted after the birth of your first. Apparently low progesterone is a common secondary infertility issue.
Do you chart your temps or anything? I first discovered I had low progesterone by my luteal phase being short - an average 7 or 8 days between ovulation and AF. This is too short and a good place to start with checking if your functioning correctly.
As prolactin lowers progesterone you may also have some of these low progesterone symptoms:
Infertility
Thyroid dysfunction
Depression
Fibrocystic breasts
Weight gain
Gallbladder disease
Low Blood Sugar
Panic attacks
Water retention
Irregular menstrual cycle
Blood clots during menstruation
Magnesium deficiency
Vaginal dryness
Breast tenderness
Low sex drive
Insomnia

Remedies can be Vitex (aka Agnus Castus). This can restore balance and indirectly heighten progesterone although I tried (and am still taking) 400mg from Dec and saw no difference except reduced PMS symptoms. Then I tried 200mg of B6 from March and this DID correct my luteal phase defect (to 10 days and 11 days) but my last cycle was back to 7. I still think it works and as I have nursing on top both these things could work better for you. But most excitingly I have just researched and ordered Progesterone cream. You apply it from ov to AF and I am hoping it will make all the difference with ttc. Its actually the reason I came here to ask others but I saw your post and just had to answer first!
As I haven't used it yet (waiting for ovulation) I can't say 'hey it works, its great' or anything but it could be just what you need to battle high prolactin! Look it up online - its used for lots of things, not just fertility, but I have read really good stuff about it helping women concieve!

Hi. Im Jolene. 31 years old. I suffered three years of a short luteal phase and didnt think I could get pregnant again without medical assistance but fell pregnant by accident and naturally. I am really happy and excited to be having a baby although knowing Im going it alone this time is a bit daunting and scary!
