I am new to this site. I have been searching out everything I can for some insight and encouragement. I have been diagnosed with PCOS (I have 2ery few Children Jayden 8 and Kaitlyn 4) I think PCOS is the DRS. way of saying i am fat. lol I am overweight. with very few periods. We have been TTC for 3 years now. and i am really getting down to business. i have not had much help from Drs. My obgyn said that if it was meant to be it would happen. (have not been back to her) I am thinking i may have EWCM (fingers crossed) but with my infrequent AF who knows. I have just started a low- no carb diet to jump-start things. i could definitely use some words of wisdom. also beginning to start charting, and could use some insight... should i wait for AF? or start now? HELP!!

Welcome to JM and to the Secondary Infertility board. I'm Stephanie, the host here. I have two children, Sierra (11) and Will (8). My husband Matt and I have been TTC our first together for over 3 years. We started in March of 2006 and have had several early losses during that time.

My first piece of advice would be to find a new doctor. For people with PCOS "if it's meant to happen, it will" doesn't always work. Depending on how severe your PCOS is, and whether or not you are insulin resistant, you may need some sort of medications to help regulate your cycle and help you ovulate. The low carb diet will definitely help you with weight-loss which in some cases may jump start your cycles, but weightloss can be very difficult when you have PCOS.

You might want to stop by the TTC with PCOS board and talk to them a bit more about how to get help with that. I only have very limited knowledge on the topic. We would love for you to stick around here too though.

I definitely recommend charting (though seeing a clear pattern with PCOS can be difficult too) and I would start it now. It might be too late to help with this cycle....especially if you are already having fertile CM.... but it will get you into a pattern so that you are already somewhat experienced when you start your next cycle. You should check out TAKING CHARGE OF YOUR FERTILITY by Toni Weschler. It is a HUGE help when it comes to learning about your own fertility.

Good luck! I look forward to getting to know you better!

Hi, I still frequent this board, and gotta say these ladies here are so awesome. I read your post and wanted to give you a bit of input being that I also have pcos, first off I would definitely find a doctor that would be more willing to help since there are things they can do for pcos, I am insulin resistant and was given metformin to help that and it helped my cycles almost immediately and I was able finally conceive after 16 months of trying and I do attribute allot of the reason for finally conceiving to the metformin since it did make my cycles more regular, I also had been dieting shortly before getting my positive which I am sure also helped.
Basically my advice is find a doctor who is willing to not only tell you that you have pcos but also give you the medicine that will help treat the symptoms and also possibly be able to prescribe clomid if need be. Good luck and I hope you get your bfp soon

Hello & I'm Amanda! I'm so sorry about all that you are going through! I ditto everything Vicki & Steph said... especially the book Taking Charge of Your Own Fertility. You will learn everything you need to know about charting from that book... I know I did!

I also highly recommend getting your thyroid checked, if you haven't already, just to rule that problem out. I was actually dx hypo but my dr didn't want to test me until I started questioning it & wanted tested so he did & guess what we found... I'm hypo!

Anyway, GL!
