I have now had 3 very early miscarriages in a row. I obviously do not have a problem getting pregnant, but staying pregnant is another story. Because I have 6 kids I do not wish to seek out fertility treatments, but I would like to find out if there is a cause what is causing my early losses. Can anyone tell me what types of tests if any can I have run for secondary recurrent miscarriages?

Hey Teresa!!! Nice to see you over here but sadly, I really have no idea. I do know that thyroid problems can lead to recurrent m/c's so if you haven't had that tested I'd def test that. Other than that, I really have no idea. Sorry!

I'm sorry you are having to join us over here Teresa. I'm making dinner at the moment, so really busy. I'll be back to share some info with you in just a little while though.

I'm dealing with recurrent miscarriages as well. The ran a ton of tests on me. The main know causes are genetic/chromosomal (>5%), hormonal abnormalities (like LP deficiency), metabolic abnormalities (ie diabetes), Uterine abnormalities (10%, but I doubt this is an issue with most of us experiencing secondary infertility), Antiphospholid syndrome (3 - 15%), thrombophilias, and male factor issues. 50 - 75% of the time it is unexplained. (this is from a little info sheet my RE gave me)

I'm sorry you are experiencing this. I know how tough it is.

Ok, sorry I didn't make it back here last night to reply. It's been crazy around here.

If I were you, the first things I would have them check for is metabolic abnormalities and for Antiphospholid syndrome and other thrombophilias. Though all the information I can find says that thrombophilias usually cause late first trimester losses (after 9 or 10 weeks) so that might not be necessary. You might want to look at the sticky on the recurrent miscarriage and pregnancy loss board. There is a ton of information about testing on there.

:hugs:
I hope you can get some answers soon.

Of course we can only answer based on our own experiences so from my 'area' I have to say low progesterone can be a factor. For me (I had one MC) it can make getting pregnant difficult if you have a low luteal phase (ie time from ovulation to AF is under 10 days) and if you DO catch an eggie it can quickly expel. So if your MC's are pretty early (like 5wks) it can be because you don't produce enough progesterone from your corpus lutem (the 'shell' of the egg once released). However if you MC more around 10-12wks it can be because of the placenta taking over progesterone production. During the switch over from YOU making it (from the original corpus lutem) and the placenta it can drop suddenly.
In both cases taking progesterone supplements (tablets, pessaries) upto 12wks can help.
For self help you can get progesterone cream. Its not as effective - and you made need to use larger quantities, but it might be enough to give you the extra progesterone boost.

Lastly though....I can see with having 6 kids why you might not want to ask for help getting pregnant but as that isn't the issue for you I don't see any reason why you can't expect full support and help in maintaining a pregnancy? It shouldn't matter how many kids you have as you have every right to carry to full term safely and heathily and not go through the upset of losses alone. :hugs:

Hi. Im Jolene. 31 years old. I suffered three years of a short luteal phase and didnt think I could get pregnant again without medical assistance but fell pregnant by accident and naturally. I am really happy and excited to be having a baby although knowing Im going it alone this time is a bit daunting and scary!

I know for me they blamed my weight, and have also said that sometimes miscarriages happens after loosing weight until your weight levels off. He did say that its more likely in gastric bypass patients though. I don't know that I am satisfied with the answers that I got, but he did tell me that for a woman to come into his office having been pregnant 9 times (like I had) and to have 9 children is very unlikely, he said its more likely that when he sees someone with that many pregnancies that there are 2-4 miscarriages in there. I know you have had 10 pregnancies. I have been following you on ttc board, and I just want you to know that I think you are doing the right thing by getting a new Dr. A Dr.'s job isn't to treat us like we are a bad 5 year old, their job is to be by your side during your journey to have a healthy baby.
Hugs!!
