I am really excited to get this all started! I think this is going to be a great way for me to stay motivated and lose the weight that I need to lose.

As you can see, inside this subforum we have several other subforums. One where we can share healthy recipes, one for journals, one for us to record our pictures and measurements and one for daily food and nutrition logs. Fell free to start a thread for yourself in each subforum. General questions and conversations can be posted in the main part of the Healthy Living Lounge.

I will be posting some stickies and helpful information for you to use, and if anyone has any questions, you can ask here or feel free to PM another one of the other amazing hosts here on JM. Tonya (aka TrainingWithTonya) is the host on the main Mommy Weightloss and Fitness board. She is also a certified personal trainer and a sports nutritionist. I explained to her what we are doing here (and that the reason we were doing it on our own board instead of on hers..... that many of us have a difficult time seein unplanned pregnancies...which there are many of on her board) and she shared a lot of information with me (which I will be posting next) and offered to assist anyone who has any questions.

Good luck ladies!

Am I the first one (besides you, Steph) to jump in here? I hope this helps me... I think my biggest weakness is that I don't know how to eat right really. I mean I grew up eating what I eat & that's all I know. I don't understand food or what's good vs what's not good. Of course I do know that baking & broiling is better than frying but seriously, that's about it. Everytime I look at diets/recipes my head starts spinning so maybe I can learn a few things here.

BTW, I just saw this recipe & it looks good... http://www.justmommies.com/forums/17706997-post2.html (Poultry Recipes). Whatcha think/Does it look healthy to you? After giving it a 2nd glance, probably not since you do brown them in a frying pan.

One thing I have been learning is how easy it can be to adapt a recipe to make it healthier. Instead of a frying pan, you could brown them up on a indoor grill (I bought a nice size George Forman Mean Lean Fat-Reducing Grilling Machine last year when I started my diet and I LOVE IT!) and swap the white rice for brown rice. You could also use low sodium chicken broth, and that would make it a healthier option. Sounds tasty too!

lol, I was so excited when I saw the sub-forum.....but then didn't have the password to get in!

I know what you mean about food! I love my hamburgers and fries and KFC's! And I pick out veg from wherever as I can't eat it. I like potatos, peas, carrots, ponions and beansprouts and thats it. Seriously. So when I look at alot of recipes I have to exclude them for having too much other veg stuff in it. If poss we just miss them out (like if it just has mushrooms added).

Thats why, on my slimfast diet, I am not worrying about my dinner. In the past I would get the low-fat ready meals (do you call them ready meals? The ones you put in microwave?) Anyhoo. maybe later I will but at the mo just cutting out my chocolate (at one point I was eating one large 250g bar a day) and other junk snacking should do the trick.
The milkshakes mean I don't have to think about food...if I were looking to see what calories and fats etc a food had I'd be getting hungry and tempted...but instead I don't have to look. I can just concentrate on yummy dinners (which I really look forward too!). Later on I have a plan to switch the milkshakes. Like, a milkshake has 200 cals and 3g fat, so I just have to find the equivalent. I found some soup incase I fancy a change which I have in the cupboard. And 2 slices of toast with a smidge of butter is just as good (cal/fat wise). But the milkshakes 'fill you up' more so I can't switch yet until I get into shape and routine (of eating small but often).

Ooooh, I LOVE potatoes!!! I do like mushrooms too... there's this recipe for spinach stuffed mushrooms that is delish but I don't know how healthy it is. Found it... Spinach-Stuffed Mushrooms recipe at Kraftfoods.com. Looks healthy to me! Man, I got some catching up to do!

You know I thought I might buy some of those healthy microwave meals this weekend too but only for our "do it yourself" nights. I typically cook but we have at least one "do it yourself" night where everyone is responsible for their own dinner & I usually end up cooking hotdogs or french toast for myself those nights.

Yeah, thats a good idea! At least of your good some nights you know having a tastier -but naughtier- dinner the next will be ok cos it will balance out!

Well...thats my theory! So long as your losing and not gaining week after week!

We also have one DIY dinner day...Monday...cos I work a late shift and DH has to sleep so he can look after D AND go to work that night!
