...just curious, what does the CD3 blood tests cover and if they were normal what does that rule out in terms of infertility issues?

Hi. Im Jolene. 31 years old. I suffered three years of a short luteal phase and didnt think I could get pregnant again without medical assistance but fell pregnant by accident and naturally. I am really happy and excited to be having a baby although knowing Im going it alone this time is a bit daunting and scary!

Missed this

I know they usually test FSH which indicates if your eggs are declining or not. A lot of dr's also test your thyroid too. I'm sure other things are tested but I know mostly it's for FSH which tests ovarian reserve.

Thanks for replying! Been very quiet round here!

Anyhoo, good timing too cos I woke up today thinking 'I just don't get it!'

I mean, I am sure I ovulate but have Low Progesterone but then HOW COME I haven't concieved for 2yrs? Not even miscarried? If I had good eggs but low Prog then surely I'd keep concieving but miscarrying? So...I do believe I DO ovulate but obviously not very well. Weak egg or whatever....but then how come my CD3 test was fine????

*sigh*

I just don't 'get' it.

LOL... I'm right there with you! I don't 100% get it but we are literally in the same boat, Jo! I think I read somewhere that weak O actually doesn't trigger your other hormones to properly nourish your uterus so that means that your uterus isn't ripe enough to allow implantation. I also know that my RE marked my chart/superbill as anovulatory when I visited... so that's my dx - anovulatory. And I'm sure that's yours too... you don't O properly to even catch the egg. But, chin up... me too! Not that I'm happy that I have a problem but at least you know you're not alone!

I know. And thats kinda what the doc said even though I was like WHAT? NO WAY!!! - but she said I don't ovulate based on my progesterone! Just seems sooo long to not ovulate? And obviously I did when I miscarried so how come not since then? Grr!

I'm kinda scared to be termed anovulatory!

I guess in DOCTOR terms they go by the strength of the egg ie: Strong O, high Prog = ovulation so even if we do ovulate, if its weak or 'useless' then its simpler to say 'anovulatory' than 'yes O but...'

I'm not sure whats happening THIS cycle with teh Soya. I was expecting a + opk today (and ov CD16 which is same as last cycle AND 10 days since stopping the Soya) but nope. Which is a good thing cos we haven't been able to B'D for 3 days and today is a very difficult day as hub needs to sleep up until I go work and then he goes work when I get home! So its a blessing really otherwise I think we'd have missed the opportunity if there WAS one! lol
I defintiely should O between tomorrow and CD19 though! And Dakota is back at school tomorrow! *winknudge* which makes things easier in the B'Ding department! HAHA

My CD 3 blood tests were estradiol, prolactin, LH, FSH, and something else I can't remember at the moment. Depending on what exactly they're looking for they may test more or less. I had low estrogen which told my OB that IF I was O'ing the eggs were no good for pregnancy. She never even bothered with CD 21 blood work since she knew everything she needed to from the CD 3 results and my charts.

I'm sure I remember seeing those on the list. They didn't really go through them with me, or give me numbers or anything. Just said 'yep fine'.
But thats what I don't understand...do I have good eggs or not??? 2yrs since my miiscarriage with not concieving ONCE seems like an O prob to me!

I wasn't conceiving either. If you looked at my charts it looked like I O'd and everything, but my body just wasn't actually doing what it was supposed to. I'm sure the specific problem that causes the O problems has a big impact on how you need to treat it.

^^ Ditto... I'm sure you are Oing but it is weak O, whatever that means, & therefore aren't getting pg. But honestly, IDK... it all confuses me. But Anna & I are proof that even anovulatory, you CAN O spontaneously one cycle.

I kind of wonder since they said I had tons of tiny follies if weak O just means they're too small or something. Then strong O means it's big and doesn't have any dents in it or anything.

Maybe. I just don't understand why my body is failing for so long! Or why I got pregs that one time two years ago? Was I messed up before then too or since then? Arghhh.

I fear I won't get any real answers even when I get to a fertility clinic. But as long as I get a 'cure' I guess doesn't matter.
