If you were going to join the military (and you had to pick something) which branch would you join, and why?

I'd join the Air Force. They are suppose to be more family friendly and I THINK they are more laid back.

Coast Guard...my dh has been in for ten years and it's been a good run. Great people, great stations, great family life.

I would say AF (as he's worked pretty closely with the AF for years, and we've even lived on three AF bases) but I have more friends that have got caught up in that "force reduction" and basically lost their jobs. I wouldn't want that stress.

I'd say Air Force. I almost did several years ago, but it was stressful trying to get the paperwork done to be able to join with kids and a husband also in the Air Force. Not impossible though.

Alot of 'force reduction' is going on. Two of my friends husband were 'kicked out.' One was in February and the other one was the first of this month. They didn't do anything wrong... they just when into work one day and were told that they had two weeks to out process!

Both families are living with family and are having a rough time finding jobs. I just can't imagine that hardship their going through..

I am in the Air Force. I love it and feel they are very family friendly I have been able to take off to handle my kids sickness or whatever when their father who is in the army couldnt.

As for the force shaping. A lot of people are being firced out however they start with the individuals who have had paperwork and normally get them out at first.

Navy.

I'm currently active duty Navy and I can't complain. I was lucky and got a job in the Navy where I don't live the boat/ship life at all.

And so far the Navy has been very supportive with my pregnancy as a single parent and my chain of command in my squadron have been supportive and understanding as well.
