What are the pros and cons of miltary life(active duty)?
Pros:
-Never having to worry about medical bills. Just had a health issue that cost $50,000 betoween hospital stays, MRIs, CT Scans, blood testing, etc and we paid NOTHING with TriCare.
-Relative job security and knowing raises will be coming with longevity.
-The adventure of getting to live enw places every 2-4 years and being paid to move there.

Cons:
-The military comes first, spouses are just the "mistresses"
-Missing holidays
-Being away from family
-Worrying when they are deployed or doing something dangerous

Do you like the lifestyle ?I love it. It's all I've ever know. My dad was in the Navy, I joined the Coast Guard after college and then married a Coastie when I got out. I love moving, getting to experience new places and meeting new people.

Would you do it again?
DH is just about to hit four years, going to stay in for twenty, but hoping for thirty. I don't know what I will do when DH retires, I'm going to go crazy being stuck in one place forever! I wish I could get back in myself, but it was a medical issue and it would be very hard for me to get back in.

What are the pros and cons of miltary life(active duty)?
Pros: I love the moving around and seeing different parts of the country and even outside the county. I also I'm happy with the pay. I realize that we are not 'rich' but the military has allowed my husband and I to have the things we want without stressing over money. Tricare is pretty good, but they have some down falls.. but atleast most of our medical needs are taking care of.

Cons Deployments is a big one for me. I understand that deployments are needed, but do they have to deploy the same people over and over again. My husband has been deployed 5 times in 6 years, where some people he works with have not been deployed in 5 years!! They do not have med issues so I don't understand why they are not being deployed also. The deployment 'rotation' is just not fair in my opinion. Also, I hate being away from my family. I love living in different parts of the country... but after 6 years, home sickness really hits. My sister is having a baby, my brother is getting married, and my dad is sick .. AND I'm not there for them.

Do you like the lifestyle? Yes.

Would you do it again? Yes. I don't know how to live a civilian lifestyle

What are the pros and cons of miltary life(active duty)?

Pros: Getting to see and do new things. Meeting awesome people. Job stability (okay not as great as it once was, but still better than a lot of jobs.) Health insurance. Perks of living on base....parks, pools, youth center, sports, etc. In general I'd say the standard of living is pretty good.

Cons: Deployments...of course. Having to say goodbye to friends who are like family every few years. Lack of stability in raising kids...always going to a new school, looking for a new house, having to meet new friends. Being away from extended family...depending on where you are stationed it can be expensive and difficult to get home too often. Not being able to make plans or even really decisions for yourselves...the military sometimes decides it all.

Do you like the lifestyle ?
Most of the time. Sometimes I get grumpy, lol. I don't like our current base, but nothing I can do but wait it out.

Would you do it again?
Yes, I would. DH really likes his job, and not everyone gets to do something they enjoy. It's been a good life for our family as well.

What are the pros and cons of miltary life(active duty)?

Pros - Getting to live in different areas, job security, free healthcare, support with housing allowance, extra sense of patriotism that comes with being a spouse.

Cons - living far from family, possibility of deployments/unaccompanied tours/TDYs, job stress

Do you like the lifestyle ? I love it

Would you do it again? Of course. I grew up military, it's the only life I know. I see the pros of being rooted in one area and being able to buy a house without fear of orders, make lifelong friends that you physically see everyday, being close to family, etc but I think the pros outweight the cons right now.
