About How much extra do they make a month while deployed?

With deployment coming up, a lot of people have been telling Dh about the crazy good money he will make while he's gone. I figured it was a few hundered a month but people have told him that he'll be making close to double what he is now a paycheck. Which is more accurate? I'm trying to get an idea so i can budget and figure out what bills i can expect to be able to pay off.

When DH was deployed I was able to save thousands of dollars. When he got home I was able to pay off a car and put a down payment on another one.

I think there might be a link that would help...but not sure :/

DH made over $500 extra per month...family separation pay, hazard duty pay, and it was all tax free.

Keep in mind the pay could take a while to start up...or could be paid later as backpay. It is the military afterall...you know how they can be.

Our pay didn't increase until almost 2 months after he left. He was making another 7 hundred a month I want to say? Definitely helps. I have friends that were able to save up 10,000.00+ while their husbands were gone.

I was figuring on closer to 500 not the double he was being told.
But he's the spender between the two of us so with him away i won't be out spending near as much money as we do now, plus i'll spend way less groceries and gas. Between that and the extra pay i should be able to pay a good bit of our debt off.
clouise and katylady like this.

It's a good chunk of change. And really their expenses over there are very very small. You'll also only need to buy groceries for yourself and a toddler...that helps. The chance to save money and pay off debt is definitely one (maybe the only one?) good part of the deployment.

It's about the only part i'm remotely happy about.
We want to have a 2nd baby when he gets home so we need a new vehicle, so i'm really hoping to pay stuff off and save a down payment.

besides the extra pay, i should be able to save several hundred extra just because he's not here spending money or eating groceries lol.

It's a good bit. My husband and I paid off my car, his motorcycle, and two credit cards during our last deployment. and this deployment we are spending the money on Christmas
