I just met a lady who lives on base who is having a midwife come to her house for the birth. She wanted to do that for the same reason, doesn't have anyone here and doesn't want to leave her little one, so it looks like the military will cover it. Now here in the AF we don't have to go with military healthcare, we can use civilian as long as they accept tricare, I didn't ask if thats what she did, but she is having baby at home on base. So if you still want to do that be sure you ask (you could start with the dr or midwife you are seeing and then talk to tri-care) I think you can do it.

I got to thinking more about it and you may have to go outside the military, and switch to tri-care gold just for the pregnancy. So you may have to pay a deductible, like a regular insurance. I know at the baby briefing they said that they have changed that and if you wanted an outside care provider you could do that, but I think she said you would be considered gold for the pregnancy and would have to pay part. I know most regular insurances will pay for a home birth 100% while only a percentage of hospital births cause its so much cheaper. It can't hurt to ask though. Let us know what you find out.

i wouldnt ever do a home birth, although i have thought about a water birth. either way i will be in the hos. since rayanne had a few problems when she was born i would rather be there then having to drive my new born baby to the hos. if he/she had problems. scares me!

That is really cool the AF does that Linda because, for the Army we can only go to civilian hospital by referrel you know what that stinks. You know everyone says the AF is the best branch to enlist because they take care of their airmen the Army they dont even care about their soldiers anymore. If you have pay problems not my problem is what they say when Hubby was an E4 he couldnt just go to finance to see an finanical officer. Now you need an E6 or higher up and need an appt. But as I was saying the only way I was able to go to Civilan Hospital was because my dad was retired and he had standard but whatever tricare didnt coverage chumpus taken over when i married my husband that cease I had to see a Military Dr some drs are okay but i have real stupid ones too
