"Teen Parents Are Single Parents. Choose Abstinence."

These billboards rub me the wrong way.

This radio station had a debate about teen pregnancy a month ago and had a teen mom on their earlier this month and the DJ was harassing her. Well, ever since then they've been putting up these billboards. In my opinion, they need to go. Yeah they give the impression to teens that it's not a trend and what-not but still. I don't know. Maybe it's just me but they rub me the wrong way.

What do you think? Should they stay or should they go?

*****Not a debate. I just want your opinions*****

That rubs me the wrong way too. Not all teen parents are single. Some of them stay together, and have very meaningful relationships. Also, those add with the stuff like, "Not how you pictured you first crib" rubs me the wrong way to.

haha!!

I think it's really stupid. Sure, it may make kids think twice before having sex.. but what about the teens who already ARE parents? I think its degrading to them

So does that mean I can go party if I'm actually really single?

That's terribly offensive to single parents, in my opinion. It's essentially saying there is something wrong with being a single parent and making it sound like it has a horrible stigma. Not to mention the generalizing that all teen parents are undoubtedly single.

I was married for nearly a year before I got pregnant and I'm still married and will be 19 when I give birth...so yeah, really single.

Ewwww. I'm single and a young mother but I don't see anything wrong with it. I've got a job and I'm going to school and my daughter is well cared for. And I owned my first home before I had her. That's better than alot of older married couples. What radio station is this? I want to send them an e-mail.

So are there a lot of girls running around getting pregnant because they think it's trendy? I don't know any.. And single parenting is NOT bad and it's not a TEEN only 'issue,' so yeah, this is very offensive.

And I'm one of those happily married ones. Although now that I'm aware of this billboard I might be WRONG huh? They sure like to speak for everyone.

If I'm single who's that weird hairy guy sleeping in my bed right now? You guys I'm scared.

There are just sooooooooooo many things wrong with those billboards. They're worse than the pro-life ones I saw recently that said something like "Bad times go away, but abortions are forever." Like... okay. If you're pro-life, I totally respect your opinion, and I understand that as like, an anti-suicide board, but "bad times go away?" Preeeeeeeeeetty sure babies 1) are not "bad times," and 2) are basically forever.

YUCK I'm glad I've never seen any of those things.. I have to disagree with you though I don't think they're aiming the "bad times" bit at babies. "Bad times", such as being raped, are what a lot of people consider an okay enough excuse for abortions and I think that's what it means, and the "forever" part is saying you will regret it. And I agree with it's saying, partially, but I don't think ANY kind of stern message like this or the teen pregnancy message should be displayed like that, our society is too complex.

I'm a single 'mid 20's' mama & I find that really offensive too!!!!!! So apparently it's a terrible thing to be a single parent? Makes me so angry! I have an Aunt/Uncle in their 40's who are dreadful parents - but obviously because they're together & not teens, it makes it all okay?

Although their approach is wrong, I can see what direction they are trying to go in.
Are they offending teen parents- obviously, but were they targeting them? I think not, they were focusing on the group of teens who are not using caution and trying to frighten them.
It's similar to an anti-smoking campaign- "Smoke and Die"- Will every single smoker die from tobacco? Not likely, but it is put out there as a technique to steer people away from it.

JMO of course!
