If its like your first big appt then yes its pretty normal. I mean ultimately the doctors will do what they feel necessary and things have changed from when women had babies years and years ago.

My 1st Dr's appointment I had an internal but not again until today during my 36th week. The 1st time at the doctor's they did this swab thingy and checked my cervix but every other appointment after that it was just measuring my tummy and checking for the heartbeat. It makes sense that because you've had those miscarriages that he's more cautious and may choose to check another time.

an internal exam of a pap smear? I have never heard of them doing anything else but a pap smear, which they do early on.

I just had a pap or whatever they do at your first appointment. At my 2nd appointment they used the doppler to hear the heartbeat, I would think they would be doing that instead of an internal! I thought doing internals were supposed to be kept at a minimum during pregnancy?! Who knows?!

They should be able to check on the baby with a doppler thing or an ultrasound?! ya know!?

I've had them done early and even throughout with Paul. It tells you how far along you are based on ripening or something like that. But its normal if he didn't do it the first time.

When I went in with Paul they told me based on the pee test I was no more then about a month but I hadn't had a cycle in like 4 so he check internally and said better get a u/s. 16 weeks 3 days.
