Ok so the only name DH and I have agreed on for a boy is Xander. Well we were trying to pick a middle name last night when I was like you need to ask your sister what your cousin named their baby. I was pretty sure over Christmas I saw a pic that said Zander somewhere announcing his birth/christmas photos. Sure enough his sister said the kids name is Alexander but they call him Zander. We live in a different state and at most would see them maybe once every five years if that. What would you do?

(It is DH dads sister child that had the baby...So his cousin that had a child.) I don't know what to do....

That would not stop me from using the name too. If it was someone closer in relation that might stop me, but they are pretty distant and don't live nearby. Go for it!

I agree, I would use the name. There is enough distance there that I don't think there would be any issue. Heck in our family, my cousin named her daughter the same name as our aunt's dog. If you like the name, use it. I think it's a great name, I've always liked the name Xander.

I do think I would decide to use it if it was the absolute favorite and you both agreed. It doesn't seem like they are people you are seeing regularly and if his actual name is Alexander then I don't see the problem.

Use it for sure, they don't live near and you rarely see them. I grew up with 2 boys who were cousins and born the same year that had the same name both were Jonathan's and they didn't care that their names were the same and they were always hanging out together and had all the same friends too. Plus you said that the other little boy is named Alexander so right off the bat they techinically would have different names anyways its just the choice of everyone using Alexanders nickname vs his actual name where as your baby boy would be Xander period no nickname because that is his name make sense.
