CS:
First off, do NOT edit your levels!
Make sure "Adjustments" is showing you can do this by going to Window and then clicking "Adjustments."
Look under Adjustments and click the box that is just black and white:

It will automatically changes your picture and that the Adjustments area now has a drop down menu and sliders. Just leave the sliders be for now and go to the drop down menu.

Pick the selection that gets the skin tone to light/darkness that you want. I'm shooting for the skin to be mostly pure white and used the default. Make sure the one you pick doesn't also wash out your details.

Next we will adjust the lighting curves. There is an arrow at the bottom of the black and white area that will take you back to Adjustments. If you look at the top 4 buttons under Adjustments curves is the third one.

The first curve we will adjust is the shadows. It is at the lowest part of the curve as close to the side of the box as you can get. Move it over to the right until your darkest spots are BLACK.

Next go to about the middle of your picture and lift it up and to the left until your brightest area is a LIGHT GRAY.

Now go to the tip top and that will adjust your highlights, move it up (if you can) and to the left until your brightest spot is white.
To finish go about your normal sharpening and finishing editing
Origial

Plain Black and White
