Have you tried the siggy school lessons? They are a good place to start. If you have done those and are looking for more advanced tutorials, post what you are trying to do and I can probably find some.

lol, I didn't last night, I didn't realize the elements tutorials would work for CS2.

Anyway, today I am more refreshed, and realized that they do work for CS2. I actually just finished your "my first siggy" tutorial and posted my finished one! yay!

Each siggy school lesson was done in PS CS2, PSP X and PS Elements 4.0, so you shouldn't need to follow the Elements tutorials for CS2. They will work, but there are better ways to do the same thing in CS2 that you will see if you do the CS2 tutorials. Does that make sense? (I don't make much sense to myself lately. )

OMG, lol. Can you tell I haven't ever used any other programs besides picture it for YEARS?

Anyway, I am feeling WAY more comfy with it now. I still have to read all the tutorials, but I made a few siggies that I like.

Does anyone else have to switch between CS2 and Image Ready? Either I can't find certain things in CS2, or they aren't there. like the drop shadow and stroke? I keep both open and click the button at the bottom of the menu to switch between them.

No, you shouldn't need to switch to ImageReady unless you want to do advanced animation techniques. This is part of what reading the tutorials will help you with - all the styles, techniques and blending options are in them. Drop shadow and stroke are both referred to as Layer Styles in CS2. Click Layer->Layer Style from the menus at the top. From there, you can either choose the style that you want to edit (stroke, drop shadow, etc.), or you can choose "Blending Options". The Layer Style window will open, and the settings for whichever option you chose from the menus will be showing for you to edit. If you want to add a layer style, you can just click on that style on the left hand side to see its options, you don't have to close the window and go back and choose the next style from the menus.

Thanks! I have been reading the tutorials, but it's taking a while to learn it all.
