First off you'll need to type out your text as you normally would. I usually use a non-script font and rather large. This is Decker font at 100 pt.

Now, double click on your text layer to bring up your Blending Options Menu.

You want to set your Blend Mode to Multiply as shown here. Your settings should look like this:

Next, click on Bevel and Emboss and set your Technique to Chisel Hard as shown here:

Finally, (and this is the tricky part) click on the Contour box and the Contour Editor will pop up. You'll want to move the editor to look something like this.

It will fight you, but as long as you get it close to this, you'll get the effect. (You can save the contour so that you can use it later to avoid having to do this step each time!)

Then click on OK and you have your text that looks like glass.

Maddie or Misty, could you try it in Elements and see if you get the same effect. If not, I'll try to play around myself in there before my trial expires.

Cool, I'll have to try it later in PSE. It's been a crazy day so far, no time to play.

I'll take a look at it later and see if it can be done in Elements. I'm pretty sure it can be.

I don't know how to do this in PSP. I need to sit down with it and try some different things. If I can find a link to another tutorial, I'll post it here.

Great tutorial Rachel! I just wanted to add 2 things that might help some people that are having trouble.

1. The Contour Editor that you want to open is the Gloss Contour editor on the Bevel and Emboss section, not the Contour checkbox that is a subsection of Bevel and Emboss. (see diagram below) In order to open the Gloss Contour editor, you need to click on the picture in the drop down box, not the arrow - clicking the arrow will drop down a list of pre-defined contour choices.

2. Once you have the Contour Editor open, you can set the anchor points by typing in exact coordinates, rather than guessing where to drag them to. When you first open the editor, you should have 2 anchor points, one at the bottom left, and one at the top right. Click anywhere in the middle of that diagonal line to create another anchor. When the anchor is created, you'll see that you have editable textboxes at the bottom. Here are the coordinates that I used for each of the 3 anchors:

Anchor 1 - Input: 35 Output: 67
Anchor 2 - Input: 65 Output: 41
Anchor 3 - Input: 74 Output: 82

By entering these numbers after creating an anchor, the anchor will move to the desired position!

These are my results using those anchor point coordinates.

You're welcome - from looking at some of the results, it seemed like some people were using the other contour editor. It yields a completely different effect!
