To optimize with image ready make sure the optimize palette and the info palette are open. Go to Window>> and then make sure they are checked.



Then you will see a 4 Up. Click on that and it will show you four optimization options. Then just click on the one with the file size you want to use. If you want your file sized lower you can play with the lossy and the diffusion to make your files smaller. Then to see what it looks like click on optimize and you can play your animation and see what it looks like. If you are not happy go back to the 4 up menu and play with it some more.

If you don't like the four options you can change your optimization with the info palette. On your info palette you will see info:: optimize:: and Layer Comps. To change your optimization settings click on optimize. I always start with mine at 256 colors and the lossy set at 0. If I need to get it smaller I might change the colors to 128 if the file size is still too big. You can increase the lossy to make your file size smaller. Also decreasing the diffusion will make your file smaller. You kind of have to play with the settings to get it right.
