Why cant I close things by clicking the x I can only close things if I go to file and close. Is there a way to change that? Also can I change the layer effects in the layer pallatte? I dont like it telling me what Ive done lol.

I'm not sure why you're not able to close it by clicking the x. That's how I do it. Um, Layer effects, I'm not sure what you mean. Is it showing you the history palette? You can close that by going to Window and taking the check mark next to History off by clicking on it.

I always close things with the X so I'm no help on that one. Not sure I understand the second question, but hopefully Rachel's post answered it.

no when I add a drop shadow or whatever it shows me under my layer like a sub layer if that makes sense. If not I can do a screen shot to show ya. I'll try those though.

Oh, I see what you mean. You can collapse that, it is rather annoying. Just click on the little arrow next to the fx on the layer palette.

And I don't think there is any way to always collapse it, you have to do it to each layer.
