How do I do this in Gimp? I used to know how to do it but now I can't figure it out for the life of me!! Thanks!

Make a copy of the picture you want to have a splash of colour and click colour>desaturate to make it black & white. Make sure the black and white copy is above the coloured original in the layers palette. Then use the eraser tool to erase the areas you want coloured on the black & white layer. Once you're happy with it merge the two layers together.

Thanks! This is what I've been trying to do...but when I go erase it just erases it all without showing the color thats underneath?

Don't duplicate the image using the duplicate button, use copy & paste to get the duplicate, then you can erase the top layer and the bottom will show through
