Here's where you start.

Once you download it. I would start with these three lessons first.

Outlined text & beveled text

Then the cutout lesson

cutouts Make sure you see this link too for cutouts. Cleanier cutouts in GIMP: Tips

And this one
picture into text/shape in Gimp

Oh, also see this link on how to save siggies as JPGs in Gimp.

I have been saving them as PNGs though now and optimizing them online because I don't like how Gimp optimizes jpgs. Here's a link to that post.

Tip for saving jpgs in Gimp

I would start with those three. I have a few other lessons for Gimp, but I think those are a good place to start. I still need to right one up on scaling, cropping, and resizing. Hopefully I can do that in the next couple days.

Jerinda! That is the sweetest picture of Quinn in your siggy. Doesn't that lip puckering face just make your heart melt? Too cute!

Well, apparently I'm an idiot, but I looked at your first lesson and am confused from the start. I need someone to Barney it down for me, since I don't even know how to get to the point where you started the lesson. I tried to start w/ outlined and beveled text like you suggested, but I'm lost from the first sentence.

Okay, do you have the program installed and downloaded? Were you able to get the plugin installed? Just want to be sure what part you have got stuck on. Don't worry about "barneying down", lol. I can do that. I know what it is like to get stuck.

Yeah, I've got everything installed just don't know where to go from there. I've never used a program like this before.

OK, here's where I get lost

Then once you have it saved open up Gimp.Type in your text (or you can use the layer effects on images if you want). Once you have your text typed in go to Script Fu and choose bevel if you want a bevel, add border if you want a border, and drop shadow if you want a drop shadow.[/b]
Type in my text where? My text for what? I don't even know what I'm working on yet.

Okay got it. Go to the main tool bar and click File > New. Then it will ask you the dimensions you want your new file. You can just use the default settings for now and click okay.

A new window will pop up this is where you will make your siggy. Now go back to the main tool bar and click on the button that says "T". This will pull up your font choices and color choices. You can play around with those.

Then click on the New file that you just created and a box will pop up to type your text in. Type your text in and click okay. Then follow the rest of the lesson. Let me know if you still need more help. I am about to eat dinner so didn't have time to make screen shots for every step, but I can if you need me to.
